I'm sorry. Keep in mind, though, that it could have worked out fantastically. I don't think taking a job because it was a fandom friend who gave you an in is really any weirder or potentially riskier than taking one you were connected to by a friend-of-a-friend, old sort-of friend from high school, spouse's co-worker's spouse who you don't really know, neighbor from down the street, etc. Heck, even a decently close offline friend could turn out to be a terrible co-worker (or roommate or traveling companion or romantic partner) because you've never seen that side of them.
