Inspired by the thread above, what ships do you have that are controversial and what exactly makes them controversial?

I'm pretty into Sora/Jack Skellington from Kindgom Hearts and have been for over a decade. It's controversial because A) Sora is technically underage and B) Jack Skellington is, well, a skeleton. Yup!

Luteces, only from a narcissistic self love angle.

Booker/Elizabeth from Bioshock.

Ooooh, that's a good one. There's definitely something there.

I've also watched some absolutely FILTHY femdom SFM between the two.

Yup. I know they're related. I don't care. I spent the whole damn game shipping them and I'm not going to be put off because of a last-minute reveal.

(Although I don't really care if I ship incest pairings anyway. So.)

Jade/Nephry from Tales of the Abyss. Controversial because they're brother and sister! But they're both fucked up in their own ways and a lot of the ways that he's fucked up are a direct result of things he did for her so it's just... delicious. I love it.

Favorite fics/ rough intro or context for beginners?

Jade is a creep, and I thought this was canon. She deserves better either way.

Peter Parker/Tony Stark

- Peter is 14 when they meet in canon, at which time Tony is in his mid-forties.
- Tony is Peter’s mentor.
- Canon depicts their relationship as having vague father/son elements to it.
- Tony has a lot more societal power than Peter.

Peter/Derek/Stiles on Teen Wolf. Castiel/Sam/Dean on SPN.

I don't ship Peter/Derek or Sam/Dean without the other person.

Basically every Alphinaud ship from FFXIV, because of the age gap. But especially Estinien/Alphinaud. Sure, Estinien's like twice his age, but they're obsessed with each other. I love it.

Sora/Palpatine

Sora Bulq or KH Sora? Because both work and I unironically now ship them both with Palpatine. Lolololol.

(KH Sora/Palpatine may actually be a thing in the future if Star Wars shows up in the Kingdom Hearts universe, what with now being owned by Disney. And that right there is why Kingdom Hearts is fucking amazing.)

My controversial ships are pretty popular, actually.

One is Spike/Buffy which is wrong because there's canon attempted rape.

The other is RPF. Enough said. Lol.

Anyone/Buffy is problematic. Pick your poison and run with it!

Buffy/Tara was my fluff ship from that fandom. I sort of love them as Dawn's guardians and each other's support system.

But yeah, any Buffy/male is somewhat bad. Except for maybe poetry guy from the early seasons?

Not really, just cause she dies and is a slayer doesn't mean she's unshippable.

It's so weird to me that apparently in 2020 Spuffy is considered controversial. I shipped it back in the early 00's and never ran into any flack for it at the time. Also, it's canon, so like, do all these Spuffy haters hate the show, too?

Everything in 2020 is controversial, or so Tumblr and Twitter keep telling me. No fun allowed anymore.

I mean

the reasons that it's controversial are very straightforward and obvious

also, it's probably good for people to be able to be fans of a show and also be critical of it, we should be lauding that
