Man, I'm reading this fic, and it's honestly so poorly written.

The character who is middle aged and emotionally closed off in canon is just pouring out his feelings to his brand new e-dating buddy, with zero deepening of the relationship to justify it. Their texts to each other are just disgustingly cutesy. The other character (who is secretly the e-dating buddy) is a weepy little precious smol virgin who acts about twelve--which is a problem because he's actually 19 and the fic keeps trying to push the "They're both adults now" angle...while writing the young one like he's 12.

It's just bad on every level.

But I'm reading it anyway. Like a goat eating the felt off a pool table, because fuck it, it's there and it's green so imma eat it.

Small-fandom life has brought me low, you guys, real low.

Man, I feel ya. Some days I just scavenge from the Whump! tag because even though 90% of it is complete garbage, if I read a bunch of them in a row it scratches my id a little.

Oooh, whump, yes. I should crawl back to my last fandom and binge a bunch of whump. It won't have the OTP I'm craving, but the whump might help make up the difference a little.

I definitely feel that, but I also get that way during the honeymoon stage of a new OTP. Like, this new ship I got into has almost 900 pages of fic on AO3 but I am plowing through one after another starting from the most kudo'd. The first page alone had like 4 A/B/O stories with 30+ chapters. I think I'm going to sustain psychic damage by the time this glow wears off.

AYRT - As someone who spent 12 straight years in huge fandoms shipping massive ships, I know this stage well and I miiiisssss iiiitttt.

About 15 months ago I got majorly into a new OTP, and it's been slim pickings. It's a medium sized ship (about 6K fics on AO3), but I don't like what the majority of fandom likes, so I read all the good stuff in like four months and I've been jonesing hard ever since. Hence, here I am reading hot trash that I now strongly suspect is written by a high schooler. *winces*

The words "I'll pick you up after college" have been used.

It's the most wonderful yet frustrating feeling. I just feel so alive when I'm high on that shipping goodness, trawling through the shit pile in search of the next hit. Even waaaaay back in the day, I'd be on FFN and clicking on stuff in which people are being kissed by the rose on the grey or whatever, AT LEAST IT'S IN ENGLISH BRING IT.

I try to stay in the biggest fandoms though, because I know in a week or two I'll get fed up and actually bother to, like, look up rec lists and shit.

I know that feeling. To my shame I've tried to google translate the two non-english fics for my ghostship so I could read those. Results were interesting.

AYRT - I've never been desperate enough to try this, but now that you've got me thinking about it...

If I'm not back in two hours, the translate window ate my brain. ;P

I have definitely been where you are nonny. I even hand wrote out kanji into Google translate to translate a Web comic for my ghostship. There are only three Japanese fans and me who ship them. 😭

It's all relative anon. I had years wallowing in thousands of fics in a super fandom, so clearly my time to suffer in a ghostship has come. XD
