Tbh me neither, OP. Genderbends aren't inherently bad or anything.

It's only dumb if the author is like, clearly doing it so "ewww the characters they see a ship between don't have to be gross and (female/gay/trans/insert whatever bigotry here)" which is sadly the case sometimes

That'd be really tough to enforce, though. Even if you put in significant penalties for violations and got everyone to agree... when two people fall in love, nobody really wants to be the bad guy and punish them for it. Even if it doesn't last, because you can't be sure it won't and it ends up being bad for morale.

i don't know anything about the actors who play characters i like because i just don't care about the actor. but i've also never gotten the whole celebrity worship thing that's been around for decades. they just people, often very stupid and out of touch people at that.
