Sapphire. It's my birthstone and blue is my favourite colour.

One of the very few things where I indulged in "girls always dream of..." was the stone for my engagement ring. I got engaged in 2012 and we picked the ring together. I tried on loads of sapphire rings until I found the one that just screamed it was mine. You cannot IMAGINE how pissed off I am to this day when I get "ooh just like Kate!" in reaction to my engagement ring. No, I wanted a sapphire stone well before she was even in public consciousness. Fuck off. I'm English but not all of us are blind fashion slaves to whatever royalty is doing.

Ugh, ignore the. Sapphire is an awesome choice for engagement ring - as hard as diamond but much more interesting to look at imo.

I don't get that royalty fashion thing either (am also a Brit). Like, when a dress sells out because Kate's seen in it. What the hell? Who are these people trying to copy them??? I can't think of anything more embarrassing than to be seen in something I bought because I saw a celebrity wear it. Oi.

Smokey quartz, Apaches tears, purple goldstone (not really a gemstone, I know), rutile quartz, hematite, hawkeye, pietersite, iolite, fire agate, tanzanite, orange calcite... the list goes on.

Amethyst, jade, lapis, moonstone and turquoise, but there really isn't a gemstone I dislike except for peridot. Not a big lime green fan.

Ruby, which happens to both be my favorite color, red, and the July birthstone, my birth month.

I actually prefer pearls to gemstones though. But of the gemstones, rubies are my favorite.
