Congo is one of the Crichton books that I have fond memories of, and I do think that there's the bones of a good movie there. But honestly, people probably shouldn't adapt Michael Crichton things in general. That's my opinion. Sorry OP. Society has moved past the need for Michael Crichton.

I never understood the obsession some people had with blaming Tim for everything when it was beyond clear Alex was the one who tainted everyone with the Operator. I mean, it is true, like OP pointed out, that Alex wasn’t the only the Operator latched onto during the childhood. I’m almost certain Tim was another of his victims from childhood.

I think the only reason it wasn’t too delved into was the focus they had already put on building Alex’s story. And/or the rl creative issues Troy and Joseph had. Dunno
