Sesshomaru/Rin stans seem incredibly obnoxious and defensive from what I've seen, and I know fuck all about Inuyasha. If they think their behavior in these threads is a good look, then yikes.

I can sympathize with the sess/rin fans who just want to kink in peace, because it's not real, and don't bother anyone.

I have zero sympathy for those who go "isn't it romantic how Sesshomaru clearly has feelings for 8 year old Rin in the original series, and gives her gifts to court her? That's totally not grooming, all those child abuse experts around the world are lying to call this kind of behavior abusive!"

Look, it's possible to find the SessRin dynamic cute and innocent because it's a fantasy show and the characterizations aren't nuanced enough that a behavior like "grooming" would remotely be on the table. From Rin's perspective Sesshomaru is the love of her life, that's 100% where it starts and ends. She won't even glance at other boys her age because it's not a realistic story about realistic people.

Going by this logic, Naraku did nothing wrong, because it's not a realistic person so real-world standards should not be used to judge his actions. But just as we look at the things Naraku does and think to ourselves "this is bad and he should feel bad", many of us apply the same standards to Sesshomaru.

I completely understand the ability to selectively apply moral standards to some characters, but not to others. We all do this. It's what allows RPG players to loot corpses of their fallen enemies without thinking of their character as a graverobber. But when you accept that moral standards can be applied selectively, you also need to accept that other people will apply those standards in a way different than you do. One person might think that Naraku is a bad person, because he kills people and killing people is bad regardless of whether it's done by real life humans or fictional characters, while Sesshomaru is good, because grooming behavior is only wrong when done by real people, but not when done by fictional characters. But another person might think that both are bad, or even that Naraku is good and Sesshomaru is bad, because in their mind fictional murder is still a lesser crime than fictional grooming. They have as much of a right to their feelings and opinions as you do to yours.

Add tot his the fact that many people in fandom have either experienced CSA themselves, or have children of their own that they worry about every day. So the issue of child abuse is deeply personal to them. Perhaps you have also suffered CSA, but your triggers are different than theirs, but just because you, personally, aren't bothered by it, it doesn't mean you can just say anything you want completely unfiltered in any public space. I've known communities, where people made shippy fanart of real nazi historical figures, but even so I still wouldn't think that a Jewish fan can post their cute hitler/himmler doujinshi all over tumblr and not expect at least some backlash from other Jewish people who don't share their degree of mental distance from the Holocaust.

I loved the original Inuyasha anime and I was hyped about the sequel, but my personal childhood experiences make it impossible for me to enjoy the sequel or to even re-watch the original knowing what it all leads up to. This is deeply upsetting to me to have one of my favourite canons ruined for me in this way and I have as much of the right to express my disappointment as you have to express your excitement and to have people like you trying to invalidate my feelings definitely doesn't endear me to you.

tl;dr If you enjoy Sess/Rin ship, that's great for you, but don't argue that your feelings towards the ship are somehow an objective truth and the feelings of people who are personally triggered/squicked by it are somehow less valid than yours.

No, I don't have a problem with people disliking a ship. I have a problem with the alarmist fancops who see people enjoying some fluffy, fantastical, wish-fulfillment anime ship and harass and dogpile them for "endorsing child rape". It's absolutely ridiculous and out of proportion.

I agree that it is horrible for people to do that, but the last time we had this thread someone accused me of harassing and dogpiling them for just saying basically "I'm happy for you, but this behavior is grooming and I don't like it". So a lot of people do treat any opinion that isn't positive about the ship's dynamics as a personal attack against them, as opposed to things that are objectively harassment, such as sending hate to someone's DMs for posting a shippy fanart, for example.

There's a myriad of details about this ship's canon we don't know. Just because YOU have the bad faith to interpret it as grooming doesn't mean you get to decide it's OBJECTIVELY that kind of dynamic, either.

SessRin shippers are disgusted by grooming (just like ANY NORMAL PEOPLE) yet you can't figure out why they're pissed off when you show up to smear their ship? This is Reylo wank all over again with people accusing Reylos of "romanticizing abuse" when a majority of those shippers just enjoy a classic enemies-to-lovers dynamic.

An adult establishing a close emotional relationship with a prepubescent child for 3 years, taking care of that child, bringing them gifts, etc. and then fucking that child once she turns legal, is a groomer, whether you like it or not. You cannot claim to be disgusted by grooming and yet in the next sentence deny that the behavior, which fits all of the markings of grooming, is not actually grooming. With this comment you are proving all the people who are accusing you of minimizing child abuse right, because you are proving that you aren't merely giving fictional characters a pass for a questionable behavior, but you are actually incapable and most of all unwilling to recognize that behavior as questionable to begin with.

As for "showing up to smear your ship" I already told you that I disapprove of people going to people's DMs on tumblr. When you make a fandom secret, you can't demand that the only people who are allowed to interact with it must be people who fully support and agree with your secret. Especially considering that the tone you set for the secret was gleeful and mean-spirited to begin with. You didn't just say that you're happy SessRin is canon, you specifically said that you're happy to spite people who find the relationship troubling. This is how you've been interacting with every comment that wasn't 100% positive about SessRin. For some reason you seem to believe that you can be as mean and gleeful towards people, who are triggered by the ship, as you want, yet nobody is allowed to utter even one word that isn't 100% positive anywhere in your vicinity. That's extremely hypocritical of you and it does NOT endear me to your side.

The shipper sees a 500+ year old demon who doesn't understand mortal beings and isn't driven by a sexual desire towards them; his true form being a dog creature it predisposes him to bond with Rin to protect and support her any way he can. He respects Rin enough to let her live independently of him and decide for herself what SHE wants their relationship to be later. Weird? Yes. Harmless fantasy that women/girs tend to enjoy in fiction? Also yes.

Again, you're free to interpret the canon any way you like but it's rude to push your headcanon on other people. That's fandom 101.

You don't have to intend to harm someone to cause them harm. I've once talked with a pedophile on reddit, who insisted that "It's safer for her to have her first sexual experience with an experienced adult than with a teenager her age, who doesn't know what he's doing". He didn't have any ill intent to manipulate or harm the children he's manipulating and harming, but he still did because a romantic relationship between an adult and a child is inherently harmful and manipulative, whether the adults intends for it to be so or not. The attractiveness of the adult doesn't change that.

That's not canon though. Both he, his brother, and his father had sexual relationships with humans, so clearly sexual interest in humans is natural for them. There's nothing in canon that would indicate otherwise and as far as I'm aware, the creator hasn't said otherwise either. It's ok for you to headcanon the sexual interest away if it makes you uncomfortable, but you can't expect the entire Inuyasha fandom to treat your personal headcanon as canon.

Agreed, as long as they don't insist that everyone needs to share this fantasy. And if you think that it was wrong of me to be anything but 100% positive and approving in the comments to your secret, consider the fact that you're currently posting under a secret that was obviously not meant for you, yet it didn't stop you from commenting under it.

Real-life grooming also involves controlling behavior and isolating your victim from other people which Sesshomaru specifically does NOT do.

Lmao Sesshomaru being aro/ace is a common interpretation in the fandom because unlike his father/brother he never seems even mildly interested in ANYONE (not even Kagura). Is he obsessively lusting after Rin's booty under his deadpan poker face? There's no way to know that, it's a question 100% unanswered for now. You prefer to view him as a horny and selfish character to support your argument, but the shippers don't.

Again my point stands that there's several ways to interpret any story and just because your reading is the most problematic and unflattering doesn't mean it's objectively more canon-accurate than anyone else's. I don't know how many times I need to reiterate this until you get it.
