I've been active in my fandom on Tumblr again. Honestly, the Tumblr Tolkien fandom is the most positive fandom I've ever been a part of, and I love it. Everyone is so nice, and everyone is fine with everyone having their own opinions and interpretations. People say nice things in tags of reblogs and in PMs, they are friendly, and there is a great mix of serious/meta, shippy, and cracky/funny content. I just love my fandom so much. I know this fandom can be bad on other platforms, but on Tumblr we just have fun.

That's awesome! Especially as Tumblr is known as The Bad Platform. I'm happy you're having a great time!

DA

There's some bruised part of me that is tempted to go back to Tumblr if only because Twitter has inexplicably grown twice as bad.

It's almost as if social media brings out the worst in people.

Hello there!
I just got into the fandom and want to know if
A) Thorin and Bilbo is a popular ship and
B) could you rec any content?(fanfic, canary, etc)

NAYRT Thorin/Bilbo is reasonably popular on AO3.

Here's my favorite: https://archiveofourown.org/works/735920/chapters/1368553

AU in that no one dies, Bilbo stays in Erebor, and there's a marriage of convenience.

Thorin/Bilbo is a decently sized ship tbh, obviously the overall fandom for it less active these days but their fic still gets a fair amount of traction.

One of my faves is this one: https://archiveofourown.org/works/22517041 a happy everyone lives/no one dies fic that has some cultural misunderstandings because I find it cute with these two.

Thorin/Bilbo is decently popular I think. I'm more into the Silmarillion part of the fandom than the Hobbit part. Not really sure I could rec any HObbit stuff honestly.

There's someone here who said they don't like Discovery because of the focus on a single officer, and I kind of agree with that. But season three seems to rectify that! The bridge crew got more sceentime in episode 3x02 than in the entire first two seasons. This is what I need from Star Trek - a crew of officers with different specialities and with unique emotional baggage working together.

Also, plotline for my fave Kayla Detmer. <3

Has the writing also improved? Because the pacing in season one, and the way they handled the 'twist' was shit. I also hated that from the morally dubious universe, the alternative version of the Captain somehow became a good character? God, I hate that show so fucking much.

The evil-captain is very clearly still a bad person? Like she isn't written as a hero, she's written as a bad guy working for the good guys.

Eh. The implication was that she was somehow better than Jason Isaac's character, even if marginally. But they spent pretty much no time building Jason Isaacs character up, whereas she frankly seemed more evil overall. Then they killed him and kept her, and I just DGAF anymore. I stopped watching.

The only reason she gets saved is because she shares good-captain's face, Michael even says she saved her because of this. It wasn't about her being better it was about Michael having an understandable moment of misplaced sentiment.

I was talking about how the show handled it in general, rather than Michael's specific motivations. I've said my piece anyway. Nobody has told me anything that makes me think the writing has improved or that the writers know what the fuck they're doing, so I'll keep on giving it a miss.

I was a bit iffy with s1 until the mirror-universe stuff, then I had a blast with that plot-line, and it made me fall in love with Michael so hard because I felt like it gave her so much to do, both acting and story-wise and I felt she really nailed it.

S2 I just generally really liked and felt like the crew got more time to shine as an actual crew and I'm really looking forward to diving into s3 to see if that aspect is better along with loving Michael as the more 'central' character. I've still got some shows to get through so Disco is on the 'to watch' list atm but I am !!! about getting there.

I love it. I don't care if other people hate it. I love Saru. I love Georgiou.

I do think the married couple is boring though, lol.

The married couple is growing on me, lol. At least in this episode.

The "Evil" fandom is slowly gaining a few more fans and a couple more writers here and there, which makes me happy :). It's still very small and quiet, but there's also no drama or nastiness, so that's good.

Is this "Evil" with Michael Emerson now on Netflix?

Got an early start on my NaNoWriMo project

11,000 words in less than a week!

50,000 in a month is looking less ridiculous now.
