Went to work, got a latte, and now I’m about to work on my NaNo project.

Finished my work week (part-time so I can only work so many hours), stayed in the work discord server to supplement everyone else's day with snark and laughs, went for a walk in the woods (and hatched a bunch of eggs in Pokemon Go, 3 Riolu woooo).

Read through a discussion of tropes on yesterday's post and suddenly got the urge to write a sex pollen fic with my small-fandom-rarepair OTP. I have never even liked that trope. But with them it would be plausible and potentially hilarious, and I'm lacking anything meaningful to write for them at the moment.

I went for an hour-long run today, and got that nice "tired but accomplished" feeling when I finished. I'm watching the Simpsons now, and in a couple of hours I'll be making kielbasa and cannellini beans for dinner. Pretty quiet day, which is fine with me.

Decided to relax and do some self care. Took a long bath this morning. Got my nails done this morning, and splurged for the more expensive fancy pedicure just to get the longer massage. Now I'm watching Return of the King and drinking a Starbucks caramel frapaccino.

Lots of work. Went on a nice walk. Had my nephew come over for a bit. Made a pickup order. Mostly pasta since the no fridge thing is still going on.

Well, it's already Friday here, but yesterday I had a nice chat to someone at my jobseeker agency about putting me forward for a job at a pizza place; and later I donated blood, which went fine right up to the end, when the nurse (who was a trainee) managed to stick the needle further into my arm when she was trying to remove it. Not nice.

Mainly wonder which one of my nephews snipped the main bloom off my orchid and what the heck made him so mad at me that he thought that was a good idea. Also, yardwork, because Thursday's the day to fill the organic waste bin. And deep breathing to avoid letting said unknown rascal know he TOTALLY GOT TO ME because I am deeply deeply deeply hurt that my plant was hurt.
(For what it's worth, their mom apologized profusely and promised to make it clear to them that that wasn't okay. Still, I don't think the guilty one will ever admit it, I don't believe in collective punishment, and nothing'll restore the plantaanyhow, so I just have to let this one go.)

People who bought masks, could you tell me more about the construction of the masks? How many layers, do they seem well stitched to you, are they comfortable, etc.?

On a side note, I'm a little dismayed at how many people are selling fabric masks, but don't include much description about how they're made, what measurements they are, what they're made of, whether or not there's a filter pocket or a slot for nosepieces, etc. etc. Just... here are some pics of some masks.

Um....well, they're shaped to go up over your nose. They're a double layer of cloth, with whatever design you picked on the outside, and something contrasting/complimentary on the inside.

The ear loops are a rounded elastic that's very comfortable. The seam of the lining over the nose is open in the middle so you can put in whatever you deem is appropriate for a filter. I did some googling, bought some felt squares, and cut them to fit, so I have felt as a filter in mine. I wash them once a week, and they have not stretched or shrunk. The fit nicely up over my nose and a little under my chin and don't hurt my ears. I like mine a *lot*, and am going to get a couple more.

The seams are all finished nicely, tucked in flat and well done.

Pretty sure there are measurements on the site, you have to click around. Or email them - they're very helpful.

Ehh, that site seems sorta sketchy imo. The lack of detail is pretty concerning, I wouldn't buy if I were you.

I'll start, because I have one. I purchased something from a local seller recently - mind you, she's been paid. She was paid at the time that I ordered it and she was supposed to get back to me to arrange a time and place for a pick up. She took a day to do this, which was fine by me. I haven't gotten back to her yet because I'm waiting to find out my schedule for this week.

She e-mails me today saying she contacted me a couple days ago and "please respond". Bitch, it's been ONE DAY. You e-mailed me YESTERDAY and you yourself took ONE DAY to get in touch so you owe me at least that much. Also, YOU'VE BEEN PAID. It's nice you're concerned about completing the transaction, but fucking cool your jets. The item I bought isn't perishable, it doesn't expire.

I won't be buying from her again.

My cats are so good at spreading kitty litter everywhere that I found a piece in my room, which is at the opposite end of the house. I really wish I could work out why they keep kicking all the litter out of their trays. I clean them daily! What is the problem here?

I was a little annoyed that it turned out the nail salon that I went to didn't allow tips on credit cards. Which meant I ended up having to split the bill in order to put part of it on my debit card. I can get why they'd have that policy, but it was still annoying. What do they do if people don't have anything but a credit card?

That does sound annoying. I once had an argument with a guy who messaged me about a... hmm, not-quite-argument? That happened at his place three or four days before he messaged me. I read his message, got really pissed off at the tone and such, and took a day or two to think about how I wanted to reply. I *was* thinking about apologising, but then he messaged me to tell me I needed to get back to him with an apology or whatever, and I was just like "Well go fuck yourself, then"
And we haven't spoken since!

Indie Publishing Stuff

As an indie author, I know a couple people on here in convos have expressed questions stuff about it. And I know others of you read free books through Amazon freebies/KU.

I was just thinking about changing my keywords and then.... orz.

So, the 'Zon search function only shows the top 1050 results of books in highest rated/featured/high to low and low to high prices. Therefore, if an indie book doesn't fall in first 1050 of those search functions. You aren't going to be able to "discover" it. (And when werewolf romance for instance, pulls up 50,000 results, that's a LOT of results not to see.) And these 1050 books tend to be the ones written by 'to market' pulp writers churning out a book every 3 months to take advantage of Kindle's very limited PUSH of new books. And they've been doing this since I want to say 2012 or so. (Probably a bit earlier. KDP took off in 2009?)

If ANY OTHER book/fic aggregate site did this, there would be readers screaming bloody murder. It's very telling to me that a NONPROFIT org run by volunteers has a better search display function than a multi-billion dollar company with paid programmers. AO3's search function is better too, tbh.

I'm pulling my books out of KU (this will go into effect 1/13/2021) and am reconsidering my self-pub process and thinking of going more towards a webcomic style model where the collated stuff will be up on 'Zon as a "support the author" reward while you can read the books in serial format on say Wattpad/Royal Road which will hopefully get me readers. (Not AO3 b/c they are a nonprofit and I don't want to mess with it.) If I'm going to haggle with the whole "you can put up 10%" thing I could probably start end of December-ish. I've done fandom stuff in the past and can hopefully adapt what I know to original.

Indie authoring is hard enough and having to play with 'Zon's algorithms to game their system isn't something I want to do. I'm sure the whole 75 page thing has been there for a while (if my reports are any indication) I just... don't... use... Amazon to find books. I used twitter and their indie publishing tags. It is what it is, I guess. My bad for not noticing.

I'm open to advice or questions. I'm still in this "I have to reorient my thinking" phase and in the talking it out/research phase. I want a plan. So many authors don't plan the marketing stuff.

Gah. I’m thirty-three and I just had to explain to the doctor who was seeing me that I’ve never had sex. I know there’s nothing objectively humiliating about that. I’m not interested in having sex, and have actively avoided sexual opportunities on many occasions. But I still find it really humiliating.
