155. DO you realize that Charlie Brown was created in a time when all little kid cartoon characters were happy, perky and innocent? He was created to represent the views of those during the 50s who logically should have been happy but just weren't. He broke the mold.

I agree. Charlie Brown made me feel better as a kid who was so often sad because of a crappy home life. I can't help but think the OP just doesn't understand what that's like.

I can tell you straight from my family history that I DO know what it's like to have a "crappy home life", especially during those few years Dad lost his job. I can appreciate that Schultz brought groundbreaking ideas to comics, and believe me I want to punch the lights out of those unrealistically HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY Family Circus kids too. It's that Charlie Brown's character does nothing for me; he's there to remind me about my troubles which I've been working so hard to take care of, but does nothing to help. I prefer a character who acknowledges his troubles but keeps on going rather than drag everyone else down in their pit of woes; that in itself is amazing to me and garners my respect.

I'm sorry that happened to you. My dad lost his job too when he fell off our roof and became paralyzed from the chest down.

I suppose we'll never agree on Charlie Brown, but I still love him. He was often the kid who did triumph over his woes to stand up for doing the right thing, if you remember. And I don't think it was about respecting him, just relating.

Anyway, it's about preference more than anything and I can't fault you for having a different one. I guess I reacted viscerally because that character means a lot to me.
