(Anonymous) 2020-11-17 02:48 am (UTC)(link)Trunchbull was already rich and just teaching because she liked torturing kids, so I'm not entirely sure how she fits into this scenario.
NAYRT

(Anonymous) 2020-11-17 09:08 am (UTC)(link)To me at least this proves that she took the job specifically to exploit it. She's not an unfortunate woman with no other choice buy to work in a situation she's uncomfortable with (as OP apparently thinks, I guess), she's a con artist getting paid to run a pseudo-sweatshop for children while raking in the big bucks by playing the mindful caregiver. (sorry, I've never watched any version of Annie, I'm just a little overexcited that my guesses check out at least a little bit;;)
"Someone like her" (without canon context apart from this convo) I would assume to learn more towards her decency of character, and credibility of her word. I'm sure there's more implied as you and the anon above mentioned for sure. (since Annie seems to play fairly historically accurate, I'm assuming?)
(bah, I'm sleep deprived and going off on tangents! Sorry about that! Hopefully some of this is legible! <3)

(Anonymous) 2020-11-17 08:40 am (UTC)(link)You are right, the options were definitely limited, especially to someone of her profile. The Irish mob fell around 1925, so that would probably paint a target on her especially if (and this is me assuming because I suck at searching for things) that those kinds of homes were in part used as fronts and recruitment centres for gangs to profit off of. If she was presumed to be associated with the mob due to her heritage and workplace, she'd be hard pressed to convince people of her value as a worker.
Sorry, I'm just completely baffled that OP thinks it's excusable for them to act that way for literally any reason whatsoever. You can hate children and have your only option to work be in childcare, but anyone who thinks treating children like Hannigann and Trunchbull does, let alone think it a rational response is extraordinarily worrying.
