Re: What did you do today, FS?

Got banned from an advice subreddit for making a joke thread. All worth the laugh it gave me. Went to sleep, where I had a dream that involved trying to punch someone in the face but I couldn't because my arm was under my pillow in real life. Went to work. That's about all.

I got banned from a Trek site once for my fan theory that Tony Shaloub's character in Galaxy Quest had a Chinese name because it was an in joke reference to Dr. Soong being played by Brent Spiner

They banned you for that? That totally makes sense to me that the Galaxy Quest creators would make a joke like that.

Clearly. I love Trek, but I also love Galaxy Quest. It is an absolutely hilarious send up of Star Trek tropes and scifi tropes in general, but in a respectful, loving way.

That's cracking me up for some reason.

I dreamed last night that I was attending some sort of weird combination high school boarding school/college dorm (I haven't been in college in over 10 years, and went to a local school so I didn't live in dorms when I was) and some girl I was friends with wanted to seduce my dad and made me take her to his art studio in this building out in the middle of nowhere (he's not an artist). It was just WTF.

NAYRT

Lol I once had a dream a guy I liked completely spurned/rejected me for my dad. In front of my dad, he made a comment about my body, and proceeded to kiss my father. In front of me. I can't remember if I left or they did lol.

I don't like that guy anymore, but for different reasons.

Reddit is so weird. I've yet to be banned anywhere but don't understand how I can make a legitimate or neutral observation sometimes and get a rain of downvotes or rage. For example, I got a super hostile reaction to an innocent comment about Scotland always having a monarch and the idea of getting rid of the monarchy even in the 21st century is a step too far even for many pro-independence voters. I also said "one thing at a time" because throwing independence and abolishing the Scottish crown at people in one go is...a bit much.

I got accused of talking down to him (sorry, but it was totally a man) by the OP and assuming they were thick regarding Scottish history. I was responding to their assertion "it makes no sense to me that Scottish people want to keep the monarchy, why would anyone?" so I was a bit like...do you know how discussions actually WORK?

Probably they disagreed with your analysis

I mean fair enough but they were really nasty (name calling) about it and even after I said I felt bad for giving off an impression I never intended, they still insulted me further.

If they ever actually undo the Act of Union I hope they bring over the Duke of Bavaria (or one of his nieces for preference) to be their symbolic figurehead of state, purely for the entertainment value of the English reaction to a Scottish Stuart restoration

Good luck with a Stuart head of state.

Even in a Scottish context that’s a grenade you possibly wouldn’t want to toss! Then again the people who would more than likely be pissed off would already be pissed off due to the independence thing.

Reddit is definitely weird. I was just thinking last night how sometimes it seems there's really no rhyme or reason why things get down/upvoted. I was on a post where somebody was saying a bunch of homophobic crap, and (rightly) got a ton of downvotes on their initial comment, but then in subsequent comments in the thread where they were saying equally awful things, they had upvotes. I just don't get it.

Any place where you can vote on posts, people will downvote for the stupidest shit.

Part of me wishes there were a site where you could only downvote/upvote people if you gave a reason. Or idk, just do away with that shit forever and just let people have discussions or do the internet equivalent of walking away. But I guess that doesn't help much with the "rain of rage" from posters.
