They are very different things. They are not the same thing.

(Anonymous) 2020-11-20 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Um, I agree with the sentiment overall, but maybe Glee wasn't the best choice of example considering one of its main actors actually was a pedo?

(Anonymous) 2020-11-21 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait, what? Who??!

I think they may not have know, this is the first time I hear about it. That sucka to hear.

Mark salling who played puck was a actual pedophile with children porn as young as 3 in sex act on his computers he was reported by an ex charged and killed himself

I have a feeling people just don't remember what it's like to be teenagers? Like when I was a kid I shipped the fuck outta Naruto. They were the same age as me but seemed older and it was never an issue. I really don't see the issue with characters 15-16+ because I mean, really? clearly they don't any knowledge of reality. Making a fuss about 17 year olds is actually a lot more problematic I think.

When I was a teenager, I actually WAS having sex. Yes, I'm going to write fic drawing on my own experience if I bloody well please. And no, I'm not going to write at as THE WORST THING EVER, because it wasn't.

THIS, for the love of gods.

The thing is, it's teenagers and very young 20-somethings (21-23 is about average) who are throwing around the pedophilia accusations. It isn't adults 30+ who haven't been a teenager in over a decade.

(Anonymous) 2020-11-21 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
Some people aren't capable of opening their mouths without some variation of "Stop sexualizing minors!" spilling out, whether or not the situation calls for it. I've seen comments like that on fan art of characters making out (it's what teens do best ffs) or HUGGING.

(Anonymous) 2020-11-20 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I will never understand the flack authors get who write adolescents having sex, because many adolescents actually do have sex in real life, it is an actual thing that happens in spite of whatever moral standards there are.

SA, posted too soon

I think you're way off base with the QAnon thing, OP. Those people don't give a shit about actual children, they just want to hurt their political opponents. They're nutjobs who remind me of cultists whose leader says the world is ending tomorrow, and then the world doesn't end, and they twist reality to fit their narrative: God spared us, it was a test of faith, we prayed it away, whatever. It's like Biden's kid's laptop, Hillarys secret pizza shop sex dungeon (lmao jfc these people are fucking clowns), the hard drive with proof of satanic pedophile activities, hospitalized people literally dying of covid and swearing its not covid as they gasp for air. They're so far gone that they refuse reality staring them in the face. I mean, their very leader is an actual pedophile who was himself friends with other known pedophiles, but nope, doesn't count, fake news, let's go find that sex dungeon. They don't care about the actual kids.

Most fandom antis have that in common with QAnon too: they also don't give a shit about kids in reality either. It's just for the serotonin hit that comes from feeling morally superior to others, and the rush you get when you get a bunch of people to engage in a pile-on with you, everyone feeling very noble and heroic for fighting the good fight. Except, just as with QAnon, it's all a complete crock of shit. But once you've indoctrinated yourself that thoroughly it's almost impossible to get to a point where you can face the real truth about how badly you're been duped and how horribly you're been behaving.

I don't care about Myer writing about teens having sex, or wanting to, I do care that she wrote romanticized grooming in her books and the people that had this 'biological urge' were all people of color.

Eww, I hadn't heard that (not into Twilight and haven't read it or seen the movies). Thats gross.

(Anonymous) 2020-11-21 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
da

All the werewolf imprinting stuff is handled suuuuuuuper weirdly in Twilight, yeah (the werewolves in general, tbqh)

(Anonymous) 2020-11-21 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
Yup. Jacob was never into Bella apparently, but to an egg in her womb, and when the baby is born he latches onto the kid. But Don't worry Renesme(or whatever the fuck that damn name is) will be an adult by the time she's six! And Jacob will follow her around the entire time and be 'her best friend' until she's of age for him to boink.

It's also worse when you find out that the Native American tribe wrote as the wolf-pack are an actual real tribe that exist irl today. So it adds another even more fucked up layer to the racism already there in the text.

Honestly, I think the "romanticizing grooming" thing is way overblown. It's obvious it was just a concept Meyer found hot and was likely kinking on it from the non-werewolf side, and didn't consider the real life interpretation. Obviously, that doesn't put her above criticism and it's a kink a lot of people found squicky. I can 100% see what she was going for, and it's really not any more problematic than any of the other romance tropes in the books.

It's her piggybacking off of a real tribe and using them for her story in an inaccurate, insensitive way that is really the problem with her novels tbh.

Whenever this issue comes up, I get flashbacks to being between 13-16 years old; remembering how horny and sex-obsessed all the students in my class were.

The impression I get from a lot of these people are that they're either not remotely sociable in their own spaces like school, or they're on a major purity no-sex-before-marriage crusade.

(Anonymous) 2020-11-21 08:06 am (UTC)(link)
THIS

Sure, not all teenagers, but I don't know how you can miss the fact that lots of teenagers are horny as hell and desperately curious about sex, and frequently are starting to have it IRL. That does NOT make it OK for adults to have sex with them, obviously, but yes, I think a 16-yo and 17-yo having consensual sex with each other is 100% fine in the real world, so I'm utterly baffled by the idea that it's not OK to write about it. There are lots of YA books with sexual awakening as a major theme and fairly explicit scenes, because that's...just realism. And it doesn't always have to be portrayed as this horrible thing, because a lot of the time, it isn't.

For real, I started having sex when I was 14. It wasn't everyone, for sure, but like... a good chunk of us were fooling around and fucking each other. It's perfectly natural, considering the hormone explosion of puberty. As long as it's consensual and safe, I seriously don't see the problem... and why would writing about it be weird? It's real. It happens. Teens fuck. Like, a lot.

I felt a bit weird even obliquely mentioning the under-age prostitution that's a canon part of the dystopian setting I was writing for.

I'm going to sound like the conspiracy theorist now

(Anonymous) 2020-11-21 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
But I think there's something to this The intelligence community has told us that Russian intelligence is planting content online to exacerbate the partisan divide in the US. I wonder if they're not behind fandom things too, like G*mergate, the flap over the diversity in the new Star Wars trilogy, and this.

Agreed, anon. Destabilization has been Russia's favorite geopolitical tactic since at least the mid aughts (see also: Russian influence operations in Estonia), and black propaganda has been in use by the former USSR since before the Cold War.

I just wish people would stop falling for it.
