I like the Ood. They look creepy, but they're generally peaceful beings and I'd like to see them show up in Doctor Who again.

Galifreyan, Klingons, Cardassians, Bajorans, Trill, Jem'Hadar, Vorta, Changelings, Prophets/Pah-Wraiths (a species outside of time is an interesting idea, and these ones were more interesting to me than Q because of the Prophet's curiousity and desire to learn and the Pah-Wraith's straight up villainy), Romulans, Vidiians, Mon Calamari, Clawdites (shapeshifters are awesome), Arcona (don't show up much, but I love their look), Devaronian (again, love the look, I love horns), Ewoks (what can I say, they are adorable), Sullustan (cool look, and Nien Nunb is an awesome character), Chiss, Ancients from Stargate (I love the idea of a precursor species to humanity, Star Trek did the same thing), Jaffa (not sure if they count, they were once human but genetically altered, but they also house Goa'uld larva), Narn, Minbari, The Silence (first genuinely scary to me Who aliens), Great Intelligence, Sontarans (I love aliens with military cultures), Daleks (more for the reaction they get from the Doctor than anything), the Ood, and Thermians (bonus points if you know where they are from).

I stuck to scifi, since we don't usually use alien to describe fantasy species.

For cuteness/sweetness: ET, Thermians (Galaxy Quest), Puckmaren (The Flight of the Navigator), Grogu (Star Wars)
For awesome backup: Wookiees (Star Wars), Kryptonians (DC), Satedans (Stargate)
For interestingly contradicting traits: Vulcans (Star Trek), Zenn-Lavians (Marvel)
For musical ability: Diva Plavalaguna (The Fifth Element), Bith (Star Wars)

Vulcans because logic is hot and turians - I swore when I started Mass Effect that I wouldn't be one of those disgusting xenophiles who wanted to fuck Garrus and I ended up crushing on Sarek Arterius of all people. And then I romanced Garrus in ME2 anyway. Turns out that I am one of those disgusting xenophiles.

I don't know what my favorite species are, but there is a moment in an early episode of Farscape, where Crichton is being held in a prison cell, and the guy in the cell next to him is like some kind of giant alien praying mantis, and when someone comes to break Crichton out he gestures to the next cell and is like, "Check out this critter." And the dude is like, just some person, but Crichton's little earth-bound brain cannot deal with the giant alien praying mantis being a person. And I really loved that, as far as little throw-away moments go. It just felt extremely real.

So for that reason, I really love the giant alien praying mantis critter person.

Vulcans, obviously. It's only logical. Romulans are fun bc ears and they're mad vulcans. After that, honestly traditional little gray or green men.

Weekend Plans?

What is everyone doing this weekend?

I will be quarantining. My sister and her fiance both tested positive for Covid. I am suffering from all the same symptoms and I spent time with them this weekend (they didn't get symptoms until this Sunday evening). I tested negative with a rapid test but still taking precautions. I was off most of December so will be working from home.

Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope your sister and her fiance make a speedy recovery and I hope what you have isn't Covid.

I have to catch up on a work assignment, so I'll just be in for the weekend.

Oh no, I'm so sorry about your sister and her fiance. I hope you stay negative and that they get better and don't get any of the bad symptoms and remain safe.

I'm mostly quarantining myself from now until Christmas because if everything goes right, sister and brother-in-law will be here, and brother-in-law is the one who had stem cell transplant and will always be a super high risk.

I'll be doing job applications, writing secret santa fics, spending time with kitty, and watching Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Maybe playing some music, not sure. And catching up on sleep because it has been a rough week and I'm way behind on sleep.

Dentist appointment yesterday didn't go well, my acid reflux has ruined the back of my top teeth. So I have to among other things completely cut out soda. So I have a grocery delivery coming tomorrow with some new things to try. Is going to be hard, though, since I use the soda to take meds with.

Finish editing the first chapter of a fanfic I've been writing and work up the courage to post my first ever fic on AO3.
And then finally get started on holiday shopping and decorating my house. Been having a hard time getting into the spirit and I do really like Christmas.

Well, my toilet pipes clogged for the second time in 24 hours this morning and rank-smelling water half-flooded my bedroom via the drain beneath the washer/dryer (which my bed's located across from). It's all dry now but I'm so tired of these floods. I now have anxiety about using the toilet!

What are your favorite videos or websites (like the archived site provided in the secrets thread re: MsScribe) detailing the crazy happenings in your corner of fandom/upsets in the history of your fandoms/fandoms you know?

Or, if you were there in person at the time, would you kindly regale us with a tale?

I'm just trying to find a decent video on the SnapeWives/explaining the history (what happened, why? when did it escalate?).

It can be anything from fan incited incidents to the creators of the media itself.
