This... doesn't make you sound like anything. It's just your utterly harmless POV.

Fucks sake, when did it become a moral point to have a freaking opinion that differs from other people???

not OP

Some folks get offended and call you elitist for having high standards, or ungrateful because your OTP actually has fic, others should be so lucky, how dare you not appreciate what you have, etc.

I respect that people have opinions, and I don't think OP is wrong, but there is a reason this is a secret. Something like this can rub people the wrong way.

AYRT Well yeah I can see how it would be tactful not to moan too much about it, but imo it's not an opinion that makes OP a c**t for goodness sake.

When people started treating differences of opinion like moral failings. But I get you, it sucks.

(Anonymous) 2020-12-05 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Same, OP, same. I just keep writing in my fandom and wish there were other writers who didn't write the male OTP like a heterosexual pairing.

(Anonymous) 2020-12-05 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
*shrugs* Nothing wrong with that. I write for a ship and I don't like any of the other fics that have been made for it either. Guess I just simply see the characters in a different light than others.

(Anonymous) 2020-12-05 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
We need moe details. How's it different? Which one is more in character?

(Anonymous) 2020-12-05 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel this to an extent though I don't hate all the fic for my OTP, but I do dislike a good chunk of it because people write them in a way I just don't jive with(nor do I feel is remotely accurate to canon, but that's hardly a single fandom issue).

(Anonymous) 2020-12-05 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
The fanon characterization of John Sheppard in one fic colored my original character. I always think of my original character as being inspired by John Sheppard, but if I'm honest, it's far more the fanon characterization of Sheppard from one fic than the canon characterization of Sheppard that influenced him. I'm not sure how much sense this makes to others.

(Cozy Werewolf Anon)

I understand why you feel this needs to be a secret. You do your interpretation. If the other fan's work was popular, then there will be people out there looking for that interpretation too. And since this is fun, it doesn't have to be amazing as long as you're satisfied with it.

Keep doing whatever it is your doing.

I reread my old stuff all the time. Because my id wants things a certain way at that time. It's fine!

(Anonymous) 2020-12-05 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
This is why I still like my own fic the most, not because I think my writing is amazing, but because I can write the dynamics and characters in the exact way I see them/I prefer. It's extremely cool to find another writer who sees a pairing in the same way but yeah, it doesn't always happen.

(Anonymous) 2020-12-05 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
+1

Although there are also some writers who really hit the nail on the head, but it's at times it's hard to find/fight the feeling do just settling for "eh, this will do."

(Anonymous) 2020-12-05 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Same. I enjoy seeing other interpretations, but I don't like characterizations that, stray too far from what I prefer.

(Anonymous) 2020-12-05 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
My situation is similar, if not quite as dire. I fell hard for my OTP, then realized I only vibed with like one percent of the fanwork for it. And yeah, compared to the other fandoms I've been in, the vast majority of the fic in this fandom does feel very amateur.

People are just doing their thing, and not doing anything wrong, bit it's still really frustrating. Especially since this "1K fic about smol little baby boy in a skirt taking daddy's big cock" style of fic is so popular in the fandom, and gets a lot of love from all the other people who are also writing mostly that.

(Anonymous) 2020-12-05 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Totally agree, and while it's obviously fine if people write whatever they want to write and fandom's never been squeaky-clean (nor do I think it would really be for the best to try to insist on it) but... yeah, the "uwu pretty smol bean gets kinky" fic is RAMPANT in my fandom and it does nothing for me, it feels nothing like the characters.

(Anonymous) 2020-12-05 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
this is me for most of my otps tbh. like there’s a few good fic and the rest are garbage/characterizations I dislike/ridiculously twee.

Sometimes I wish I was able to enjoy ooc in fic but I can’t =| I always ruin fandom for myself I guess

(Anonymous) 2020-12-05 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel the same way about one of my fandoms/ships. I don't write fic because I suck at it, but what little fic there is is just so completely different from the characterization/character dynamic that I see, it's kind of mind boggling. I find myself thinking "are we even watching the same thing?", which I know sounds arrogant because obviously people can interpret things however they want, especially when they aren't canon to begin with. And it's really hard to claim that my interpretation of what kind of sex life A/B would have is "more correct" than anyone else's because they're not actually a couple in canon, but...I just can't imagine that someone who complains about society being over-sexualized and someone who turns bright red at even the slightest mention of sex are having all this super hardcore kinky sex. I just can't help but see them as the most vanilla pairing ever.

I got way off topic there, but...yeah. I know how you feel.

OP

(Anonymous) 2020-12-05 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry, I know that language can be a little harsh for many people. The fandom in question does originate in the UK and has desensitized me to it I guess. Perhaps I should've said it makes me sound like an absolute knob!

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2020-12-05 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Knob and c**t are not commensurate.

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2020-12-05 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
SA Sorry pressed enter too soon. They don't hold the same weight even here in the UK.

And no your opinion still doesn't make you seem like aknob. It's just your preference.

I wasn't necessarily saying the two words meant the same thing or were on equal footing, I was apologizing and amending that perhaps I should've used a less objectionable word.

I'm really curious as to the writing style/dynamics...it would likely be too much to ask if you could please post the author who inspired you, but could you please provide certain elements that you like to use/inspired you?

(Anonymous) 2020-12-06 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
I can relate OP; It's really hard when you're the only one that interprets a ship a certain way. It's even worse when it's practically a rerepair, it feels like you're shipwrecked.

Keep writing, and I hope you find someone that likes them in the same way you do!

(Anonymous) 2020-12-06 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
I've definitely been there a couple times, OP.
