How's it going, FS?

Watched "Death to 2020" which was both lame and unfunny.

The short film "2020" is much, much funnier and more insightful.

Eh not too bad. I had to go to the drugstore this morning and they had already cleared out all the Christmas stuff (I was wanting some tags and wrapping paper on sale). There was one small shelf with clearance candy, mostly candy canes, but there were a couple of boxes of cherry cordials so I got them. It was kinda weird, the shelves were empty and like I said, no Christmas anything anywhere, so I guess they're making way for Valentines stuff?

My head is killing me and I have worked every day of my vacation. Hopefully I feel better by New Year's. It is my birthday.

Been playing the Switch my sister got me as a Christmas/Birthday present. She got me Breath of the Wild. Hoping to save up money to get Animal Crossing.

I'm okay, but both my dad and my sister are sick and we're all really hoping it's not Covid.

Incredibly frustrated. Finally got a new water heater, and something is up and it IS NOT WORKING and the installer guy has been here twice already and he and his electrician will be here tomorrow at 8 am and
I JUST WANT A HOT SHOWER THAT LASTS FOR MORE THAN FOUR MINUTES!!!

*flails*

Also, it snowed, but it didn't stick.

Finished the only currently existing chapter of Deltarune. I didn't really connect with the characters or story yet, but I also don't think it's fair to expect to at this point in time. I did get hit with serious feels wandering around at the end though. AU/Multiverse shit can really screw with you.

OK. I think I'm doing better than yesterday. Worked from home a little and took the day off because it snowed last night and everyone else pretty much decided not to bother coming into the office. I got some exercise shoveling snow and also talked to my mom a lot on the phone. It took me a long time to get out of bed and face the day (didn't help that I was having a hungry-low-blood-sugar-but-don't-feel-like-eating situation this morning) but once I forced myself to eat a bowl of cereal and then went and shoveled, I felt better.

I also went and got a Covid test for the first time since maybe October. I don't have symptoms, but I was in line at the post office for a long time a couple of weeks ago (everyone in masks but indoors and not in a really large space) and since I had the time to go in the middle of the day I figured the wait wouldn't be long (it was really short!) I want to go visit my parents some time after the end of January, and since vaccination is taking longer than people wanted, I might not try to wait until they are vaccinated, which means being careful and getting tested repeatedly.

I had a productive day. Wrote a brief I feel proud of with some creative legal arguments. Had some long walks with my sister's dogs. Got several job applications done.

On the other hand, I seemed to have done something last night/yesterday that has led to a muscle knot pressing against nerves in my left lower back/hip. I've had shooting pains down my leg since last night. Didn't sleep well, and I've been working in bed because sitting is extremely uncomfortable. I've been icing it on and off and taking ibuprofen, but it still hurts.

Now I'm listening to music and relaxing. Will need to do one more dog walk, but other than that, I'm done for the day.

Nausea/reflux back with a vengeance after less than a full day of relief. :(

On the other hand I've been trying to power through it to get files onto the laptop I got for Christmas, and in the process of transferring over old fan art, I have been finding some FABULOUS things I forgot I drew. Either because they were actually good, or because they were the equivalent of crackfic largely based on injokes with friends who I'm still friends with on FB so I've been sporadically posting them and tagging people to go "omg remember this?". It's fun.

New Year's Resolutions

Do you believe in them? Do you have any?

I always make the same resolutions every year and the only one I ever meet is my reading goal one. I really want to lose all the weight I gained this year though.

Socialize more, make friends for once. Be more hard-working and get work done.

I want to read one book a month, bake one new thing a month, and crochet three larger objects. If I can lose 25 pounds, I am getting my first tattoo.

I figure you can make resolutions any time of year. Suffering a setback doesn't mean you failed, because you can start things up again.

If I had any kind of resolution, it'd be to be brave enough to do all the things I need to unfuck my life, I guess. If I went further, I'd resolve to be brave enough to pursue things I want.

As soon as it's safe, volunteer for everything and finally get to know more people in my neighborhood, take classes (e.g. from the Parks and Rec department or at my gym... that I haven't been to since March) that last more than one session so I can actually meet new people. Talk to my Mom more, specifically about my fears around her dying.

Re: New Year's Resolutions

I resolved to take better care of myself. I'll be going to the doctor next year and being kind to my body. I will continue to exercise six days a week for at least 35 minutes a day (I've actually been doing this for the past 4 months and I've noticed improvements everywhere), I will continue to practice yoga and meditation. I will drink more water and monitor my sodium intake. I will work on my anxiety and be kind to myself mentally. I will read more books and watch more movies.

I like the idea, but they've never worked well for me, so I usually don't.

Some of it is kind of dumb but, eh, it's my resolution list:

-Find an exercise routine and stick to it for at least 3 months.
-Get my ears pierced
-Find work
-Complete a zine

I tried doing the same one like three years in a row, thinking it would be simple enough to "exercise with hand weights/situps/etc. every day" but that didn't account for chronic illness getting worse and worse to the point some days I can hardly sit up in bed.

I've given up on planning anything for the future unless my health improves, since there's no guarantee I'll even be able to get out of bed at a given hour of the same day I decide I'm going to do something a little later. Just have to do whatever I'm capable of every day.

I mean, I tell myself I'll try to do stuff, and mostly don't manage. This year I was gonna try and be a bit more social and joined a book club. Went to two meetings and people seemed nice, before the world went to shit and the meetings moved to Zoom. My home wifi is too slow to make that work.

I also stopped walking for exercise after two years of doing 5+ miles a day (in 2018) and 6.5+ a day in 2019. When all the gyms closed suddenly my solitary nighttime walks turned into a procession of recovering gym-buffs out powerwalking. I'm fat and slow and read as I walk except when I'm sticking my nose in flowers and petting random dogs and cats. Maybe I should just buy a treadmill.

I'm hoping to start walking for exercise again this year but we'll see.

I gave up sugar (and honey, agave syrup, all that stuff) for all of January a couple years ago, because I knew I could do a month but probably not a year. If I had lost weight or felt better or been better able to concentrate or even felt any positive difference at all by February 1, I would've kept going. But literally nothing changed for me.
