One of those arthouse movies with that vaguely tells a story about the human condition, but has an open ending and leaves you wondering what the hell you just watched.

Alternately, a Woody Allen movie.

Black Comedy. A lot of fucked up shit has happened to me, but I usually have a sense of humor about it.

I'm not entirely sure, but it was written by David Lynch and Christopher Nolan and directed by the Coen brothers and David Fincher.

Your opinions/thoughts on Small Fandoms vs Big Fandoms?

(Anonymous) 2021-01-10 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Lately I've been hanging out in small fandoms that tend to only have a few people in them and often go weeks to months without any new fic uploads on AO3, typically only getting occasional gif posts here and there on Tumblr. On one hand, yeah, it'd be nice if there was more content being produced but the trade off is that there's virtually no drama or fighting whatsoever so it's been totally worth it.

My preference is small-ish but still active. Those have been the healthiest fandoms, in my experience. Small fandoms are often healthy too, but just don't have enough activity for me. Large fandoms end up burning me out on negativity.

It varies with me. Big fandoms are great for constant fanfic content, but I try not to be involved in the fandom or interact with anyone when people are desperately stirring drama. Honestly the only time I've enjoyed 'big' fandoms were when they start dying off and/or the media its based on has halted or concluded; I get to enjoy endless amount of content left behind and I'm making my own stuff without having to worry about a potential mob being on my ass for not drawing or writing something correctly.

On the other hand, even though there's a lack of content from others I'm usually in my element when I'm on a creative streak and make a load of stuff for my own entertainment - especially when I can't find it in the very fandom.

I'm cursed with small fandoms, and they are very cozy most of the time. But At least in big fandoms, you can find small groups with your interests and find ways to avoid some drama, in small ones you're stuck with what you get.

Once in a small fandom, I got stuck with a 99% "antis" with a discourse and call-out fanatism fans. (I left immediately, but not without being sad that I can't show the source material some love.)

Big fandoms all the way. I spent the vast majority of my fandom life in huge fandoms and it was great. Then I got into a medium sized fandom and found it honestly kind of brutal. I need content. Without content I just jones and pine and jones and pine, endlessly.

I do not give a damn about wank or antis. They don't bother me. Having no content, otoh, makes me feel like I'm going extremely stir-crazy.

I miss getting feedback on fics and getting to discuss characters and worldbuilding and stuff, but on the other hand in a dead fandom I'm less likely to offend someone accidentally. Or on purpose for that matter. Get to write what I want without anyone pointing out how unhealthy the relationship is or whatever (and I mean, yeah, it sure is, and I would not want to be thought of as romanticizing it as I explore it).

I like to be in small cozy corners of big fandoms and occasionally yell "Be Kind To Each Other" into the void when I hear about drama.

Which decade do you think put out the best or worst movies?

(Anonymous) 2021-01-10 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Loosely inspired by secret #2~

Re: Which decade do you think put out the best or worst movies?

(Anonymous) 2021-01-10 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Worst is the 1960s. I think that's just clear (discounting the 2010s which are too recent to judge).

Best is much harder to determine, and I could see a strong argument for the 30s, 40s, or 70s. But if you asked me my personal favorite, I would say the decade 1985-1995.

There's very little that I enjoy from the 50's, both in relation to film and general pop culture.

The 80's put out a lot of goofy garbage but it was FUN goofy garbage. Loved the design and special effects unique to that decade. There was a ton of creativity all around.
