lmao okei homophobe

(Anonymous) 2021-01-16 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep. Because if you don't enjoy reading or writing slash, you're a homophobe.

(Anonymous) 2021-01-16 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
NAYRT but while that's true, taking two characters that definitely have canon queerness to them and wanting to genderbend them for your own original fic when you could have just... created new characters... stinks a little of something.

NAYRT
I'm not familiar but aren't they genderless to begin with? Why are people so offended that someone enjoys a canon-ish - I'm assuming - ship dynamic and wants to genderbend it? It's not like they're going "ew, The Gays :(!" so. I could understand being annoyed by it if a majority of people did it but that doesn't seem to be the case...?

AYRT genderless with male presentation and still heavy queerness. To make that straight het is still erasing that imo, especially for OP's reasons.

(Anonymous) 2021-01-16 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
NAYRT but

I mean

there are plenty of ships that aren't slash already

(Anonymous) 2021-01-17 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
But those plenty of non-slash ships aren't A/C, which is what the OP is interested in. What is this attitude that ships are a finite commodity and one can be swapped out for another if you don't like its gender combo or whatever?

(Anonymous) 2021-01-17 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
But the queerness is an inherent part of their character. So it's more OP is interested in Crowley and a woman who is the La Croix of Aziraphales.

(Anonymous) 2021-01-18 06:12 am (UTC)(link)
What is an inherent part of a ship is every shipper's personal opinion. Just because you think the queerness is what makes the ship what it is doesn't mean everyone sees it that way. Even if you think the other people's interpretations are wrong, the fact that they like this particular ship means something and can't be wrong. You cannot be subjectively incorrect with what sparks your interest. It just isn't possible, because interest by definition does not work that way. If it queerness was really so integral to the ship, the OP wouldn't have been interested in it in the first place.

(Anonymous) 2021-01-17 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
So? Why should that mean that OP can't ship what they want to ship? There's no limit on who can ship what.

(Anonymous) 2021-01-16 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
NA

I'll be honest, the fact that OP went "I'm not homophobic, but" makes this come across as homophobic when it didn't need to be.

I have no issues with genderbending a character, but once you start with "I'm not homophobic, but" I'm going to assume homophobia does play a role, even if only subconsciously.

(Anonymous) 2021-01-16 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Also NA, but... this, basically. Coupled with the confession that the gender-swap is literally and specifically for the purpose of 'avoiding the gay'.

(Anonymous) 2021-01-16 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh FFS. In all likelihood they're "avoiding the gay" because slash doesn't turn them on. That's not homophobic, that's having erotic preferences.

(Anonymous) 2021-01-17 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
You don't think that maybe OP felt the need for the disclaimer because someone would inevitably accuse them of homophobia because they weren't interested in slash?
