Agree. I don't particularly like it as a tactic, but I do get why it might be a useful tool for reeling in people where they know the popular author/work reference.

But that can also backfire when the work is nothing like the thing referenced in all the blurbs (apart from e.g. the same time period) and people get annoyed about it.
