(Anonymous) 2021-01-26 07:35 am (UTC)(link)Is that so? I only recently got into her work and hadn't heard of it.
As widespread as those beliefs were at one point, I have to admit that's pretty disheartening. Then again, I perhaps shouldn't be surprised, given that she also seems a staunch believer in "blood will out".
Shame. I adore Avon as a character and want to see more of him. Or more villain-heroes decked in silk brocade from head to toe and wearing red heels, dammit!

This is a link to some detail of her worldview. I think she has a lot of great works, but yeah, there's some foundational cracks.

(Anonymous) 2021-01-26 07:44 am (UTC)(link)I would really like some Heyer adaptations, she's one of my favorite writers. But technically These Old Shades is Georgian (along with The Black Moth, Powder and Patch, The Masqueraders, Devil's Cub, The Convenient Marriage, The Talisman Ring, and Faro's Daughter), not Regency. But if they ever did an adaptation, they could (and definitely should) follow it up with the sequel Devil's Cub, which I love. My absolute favorite is probably The Reluctant Widow, but there are easily twenty of her Georgian and Regency novels that I adore and would love to see good adaptations for, plus five or six that I like well enough that it would be interesting to see an adaptation. Masterpiece could do them.

(Anonymous) 2021-01-26 07:52 am (UTC)(link)Haha, yeah, I was aware These Old Shades was Georgian. I perked up at the mention of Heyer (whom I have only just recently discovered) and forgot that we were (supposed to be) discussing Regency. My bad.
I've picked up The Black Moth and Devil's Cub for future reading (mostly because of my fascination with Avon), but I'm very curious about the rest of her portfolio. I take it that The Reluctant Widow is one of your recommendations; any others that are up there for you?
