Re: What fandom got you into fandom?
(Anonymous) 2021-02-04 03:58 am (UTC)(link)Mid-90s, I was drawing X-Men fan comics with my friends and discussing DS9 and X-Files every week... some local friends and I were taping Sailor Moon when it was airing on a local Fox affiliate at 5am and then discussing it the next day.
When I got on the internet a bit later, the two big things were the "SOS - Save Our Sailors" campaign aimed at getting more Sailor Moon dubbed, and the recent release of Final Fantasy 7, and since I'd been playing/doing fanthings for the FF series since the first game, I got right into both those internet fandoms.
I'm still in FF fandom in general, not SO much FF7, and I am still fond of Sailor Moon (and liked what I got to see of Crystal), so if internet fandom counts as fandom... kinda? And if the rest counts, I am still very fond of TMNT and X-Men, and if I knew where there was a fandom for those NES games I bet I'd enjoy them. ;)

(Anonymous) 2021-02-04 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)I mean in addition to "sharing" my handwritten fic, I also got to "post" my comic book fan art because I was in the local comic shops so much and the owners liked to see my art and sometimes would ask for copies to put up. (One pic they sent to Valiant's office, and I got a gold foil edition of a certain comic, hahah.)
So I guess it's really no surprise I got sucked into online fandom the second the internet became something people could do from home. I've always been an oversharing geek. Just online, it's easier to find people who are INTERESTED in what I'm trying to geek out over rather than "omg you're on about that AGAIN?"
