Agreed on all fronts.

I love most all those series but NGE, Rayearth, Utena and others (Haibane Renmei for example) had more staying power for me. I’m still waiting for the last Rebuild and I feel your pain.

BSSM was formative for a middle school me, and I was only able to see a handful of episodes because we didn’t have cable but I could buy a few fansubs.

When Crystal came out I cringed. The animation was poor and the product placements were blatant - the moon stick was a toy commercial just like PreCure. I just couldn’t take it anymore and haven’t finished R. Even though they said it would stay close to the manga, they also dropped characterization pretty hard so they’re flat as the manga counterparts. It’s a shame because they could have done so much more with it for older fans.

But I think they grew up and for one of the giants of magical girls, they don’t seem to treat it with respect.
