Most people enjoy resolved romances. The more people that enjoy your creation, means more money.

Ugh YES! I just realized that most times, i don't like my ships becoming canon. With some exceptions-- but I just like everyone flying solo. Moments of blurting, maybe some UST, maybe some deepening of friendships -- you can even toe the line! But no actual pairings with few exceptions.

It would be exactly that. Ugh.

I don't see a problem with this?

I mean, I'd say it's problematic if you go out of your way to be like, "and then this guy, who is totally hairy in canon, suddenly isn't hairy any more cause he's a bottom in this story now" (and equally problematic if suddenly someone canonically less hairy is suddenly covered in ~masculine fur~ cause they're a top now) but if there's no canon on whether he is or not, who cares? You aren't actually feminizing anything?

Besides, more guys keep stuff trimmed than you'd think, just for personal convenience

Not sure how that logic really follows when most shippy endgame scenarios (in TV universes, at least) happen in the final season/episode/movie, i.e., after the money stops comingin for creators anyway.

Given that shippers and shipwars are a pretty big talking point during a show/movie series/whatever's run, giving them the endgame moment feels more like a "thanks for your unpaid advertising revenue".

That, or creators assume pairing up every character is the only conceivable way to give closure to their show/movie/whatever?

Honestly? I think views like these are not helpful. "Well, it won't be to MY liking and convincing ME that it isn't pandering." So what? We have to start somewhere. Maybe this will inspire someone to do better, if not for Avengers, then something else. And if someone else CAN do a better job, then great! Personally, I think it really sucks we aren't anywhere near having an all-female action moment/group/movie without most people going "WOW, WHAT A LAME TOKEN ATTEMPT, NEXT." I really hate that we aren't past that in 2021.

I agree OP.

Also the girl in the middle is really pretty and i'm kind of crushing on her a little.

As a multishipper -- even one with several ride-or-die OTPs -- SO MUCH THIS. I've never wanted my ships to become canon: I only ever want the freedom to play with their relationships on my own terms in my own fic, and I want people who ship those characters with different ones to be able to do the same with theirs.

The fannish obsession with canon ships as the only viable ones have done nothing to change my mind on this.

Did you visit before or after Katrina, OP? Because I gotta say, I get the impression that it's a case of two different cities.

I mean... what's your point? Sailor Moon isn't very good though. It's cute but the writing is extremely cookie cutter. The only reason people come back to it is because the visuals are iconic and 80's nostalgia is still hot.

And who gives a shit if a show is obscure? Kodomo no Omocha is obscure as hell but it's genuinely terrific.

Ngl, I finally watched Fushigi Yugi and it was pretty good (that theme music!!) And Utena is still on my list -- it's one of those anime classics that comes highly recommended. But I think there was just a greater cultural traction to SM? Growing up, we didn't have cable, so if it wasn't a 4Kids or Vizmedia dub, I (and likely others in similar circumstances) weren't going to see it. FY and RGU (and these others you've listed) were not readily available to many people. Taste being subjective, even if the plot was better on some other show -- being able to reach more people, and maybe even being the only anime exposure someone got plays a big role on who society is going to remember
