Saw a meme today that really distressed me.

Sausages can be defined as: "Ground and pulped meat products forced into a casing made of animal intestines"

The act of consuming a sausage does not change the nature of the sausage. Your teeth grind and pulp the meat product and then force it into a casing made of animal (human) intestines.

The sausage is not changed by being consumed, but you definitionally speaking, become a part of the sausage as it's new casing. We do not change the sausage, the sausage changes us.

One, human intestines are not "a casing made of animal intestines"; they are a casing composed of animal intestines, but "made" implies a degree of design and construction

And second, the activities of the human digestive process cannot accurately be called either "grinding" or "pulping"

I actually looked up the definition of both Grinding and Pulping with the intention of refuting this nit-picky bullshit.

But this is some real nit-picky bullshit, and honestly I think you have fun being a buzzkill, and I, unlike you, do not wish to ruin a random persons fun.

Why. Why did you feel the need to share the pain gained from the knowledge of this meme.

We're all sausages!

I'd put that down to someone feeling edgy.

I don't feel anything anymore. Not since I discovered I am a Kielbasa.

I was kind of disappointed this didn't turn into a penis joke.

Sorry.

This just seems like a squishier version of the "Pop-Tarts are ravioli" discussion.

Pop-tarts are ravioli, but that doesnt force me to question my very existence.

Pop-tarts are not ravioli, chili is not soup, and a hot dog is not a sandwich

(Anonymous) 2021-02-20 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
For me, anyway. But the ravioli one is really weird to me, a pastry with a filling is not like pasta with a filling.

It's a misunderstanding (a putatively humorous misunderstanding but I think one that genuinely cuts to a way in which many people really think) of how definitions work

Definitions aren't lines in reality; definitions are convenient ready-to-hand mental categories that human beings fit things into based on language that we invent

Pop-tarts aren't ravioli because it would be fatuous to call them ravioli. You don't have to define 'ravioli' more neatly to exclude pop tarts; it's not worth the bother.

Okay- whut??!??!

Poptarts are absolutely /NOT/ ravioli. Pastry is not pasta, and never has any poptart been filled with meat/cheese, nor has it's cooking instructions provided sufficient safety regulations in order to heat/cook/store such foods to proper temperature! I AM OFFENDED!!!

This is gross, and also amusing. Also, I now cannot stop thinking of Giles saying, "I wear the cheese; the cheese does not were me."

According to my research! (aka my vague memories of TMSB)

Technically by breaking the seal of the sausage it only becomes some form of congealed meat. Through the process of digestion, which begins with chewing, and continued through the acid in our stomach as well as our other processes, we take the nourishment we need from the sausage, and by the time it reaches our intestines it has all become waste. AKA. NON-EDIBLE!
