Giles was definitely one of them. The bookish, nerdy thing was part of it. The protectiveness was a huge part of it. But also the talking to Buffy, not keeping her out of the loop.

Sirius Black was another. Less nerdy. But very protective. And also with the wanting to keep Harry in the loop as opposed to others who wanted to keep Harry in the dark about things that involved Harry. He talked to Harry like he was an actual person and not a baby.

Matthew from the Anne of Green Gables books. I always loved both him and Marilla. They had different parenting methods that worked well together, and the both loved Anne equally strongly. I loved that Matthew listened to Anne and knew her so well. He just took the time to listen and hear her. He was a quiet man, but when he spoke up it was most often on Anne's behalf. He'd do just about anything for her. He saw her as her own unique person.

and then there were a few fictional mother figures as well.
