I was a reluctant reader when I was a child and Reading Rainbow made me want to read. LeVar Burton made reading sound so exciting and I like how he invited everybody to check the books out for themselves to see if they liked them or not. It was different from how my teachers approached reading, which was basically that we had to read this book because they said so and didn't explain why it was important, why I should care, or even if they liked the books.

I loved Reading Rainbow as a kid. Never thought of Burton as a dad figure. But that and Wishbone were two of my favorite shows. And since I considered it a challenge to see how many episodes there could be where I'd read the book that was being talked about before the episode aired.
