I think we're going to have to agree to disagree on this one.

I admit there are other big names influencing what the current fantasy genre looks like, but imo, the biggest influence, the biggest name in defining fantasy is Tolkien. Without him, fantasy would be unrecognisable, so I say he is responsible for it, in the same way Blade runner is responsible for all the Rain and Neon in cyberpunk.
