IDK the song but in my experience being ace and enjoying music in any language I understand means jamming to lyrics I wouldn't ever relate most of the time. And it's Just How It Is.

Yeah, this is very true. I mean, I love music, including very romantic and/or sexual music. But I guess I tend to relate to it more like I relate to a fictional narrative. I can vibe with the sexiness and the romance, but I don't usually see myself in the lyrics with songs like that. They're more fictional and hypothetical.

In fact, maybe the reason why Faded's lyrics bug me (when I let myself thing about them) is because I do relate to the situation being sung about. I relate too much to getting this kind of pushy, horndog, player attention from men. (I know, I know, we're supposed to assume the girl is actually hot for him, and is just playing hard to get. I just...hate that narrative, lol.)

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. Some lyrics can be platonic and others that sound like love songs are just metaphors, and others yet, well you can dance to the lyrics and vibe to the energy but not the meaning. I feel that.

And yeah I know how that feels. :( When it's clearly a song from the enemy side but it's still a fun song to jam to.

My god, I haven't heard that song in years. I can't remember the lyrics right offhand, but now I'm curious to go look them up.

I can relate to this secret, though, 'cause yeah, there's a few songs I like whose lyrics are a bit "...yeesh."

Hahaha, yup. It's always so jarring to me when it's a song I bopped to as, like, a thirteen-year-old, and was just wholly uncritical of at the time. Like, thirteen-year-old me listened to Faded and was like, "Yup, this is a totally cool and sexy way for a guy and a girl to interact." I blasted this song around my parents and never thought twice about it being, A) kind of racy, and B) the sort of song that probably made my feminist-yet-slightly-prudish father want to hastily press "skip track."

Also, the bar for what's fine and what's creepy in popular music has definitely moved in the last twenty years. I think the bar for how explicit music can be has definitely been raised, but the bar for what's viewed as "not okay" tends to be lower (specifically in popular music, not necessarily in all genres of music across the board).

I was today years old when I learned soulDecision was Canadian. Everybody's all "who?" As though this song wasn't everywhere for a while there. As thought it didn't dethrone Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely to be #1 on the charts.

But ah yes; what happens in Canada stays in Canada. If a single drops in Canada, does it make a sound? Etc., etc.

I'm not Canadian, no-I didn't know they were from there, either :p! I just remember that song being on some CD that my sister used to play when we were teenagers.

God, same. I think about some of the stuff I used to listen to as a teen and I'm like, "...and I sang that out loud? Where people could hear me? Oh, lord..." :p. And then there's songs like "Centerfold", that I happily danced around to when I was really little, and I didn't have the foggiest idea what that song was about. I just liked the "na-na-na" bit :p.

But my parents were never the sort to restrict what my sister and I listened to, so...

Yeah, I admit this is a fairly "water is wet" secret. I was running low on secret ideas and I just felt like talking about music when that secret-maker thread came up, so I tossed it out there.

I remember listening to Stray Cat Blues for the first time and being like ...yiiikessss. I mean, on the one hand, that song's a jam. On the other hand, FIFTEEN, MICK? REALLY?

I never got the hype for "Up", "Wall-E" was decent. "Ratatouille" makes me nostalgic, and the only Pixar movie I can remember recently that made me feel, actually FEEL, not just bawl (it's the only that's made me bawl actually lol) was "Soul". Honestly a very good movie.

Does Brave & Moana count? I liked those two alot (teared up lol)
