'Why did you read it instead of scrolling past' because I read all the secrets even if I don't get it lol.

Seeing this comment made me read the secret.
I just skipped it because I don't know what Joss Whedon looks like.

(Anonymous) 2021-02-27 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
He lost his position with his HBO show over the same investigation that the Carpenter statement was connects with. As far as I'm aware he has not other big projects going. I think he is, in fact, canceled and I'm not sure what else you're asking.

(Anonymous) 2021-02-27 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
I kind of want to believe this. My spider senses tell me that this time is different, and I hope I'm right.

I think it's also a situation where he's not that much of a moneymaker anymore

It sounds like people at Sony were really unhappy with his work on Justice League, not because he was an asshole but because it was shitty

And unfortunately that always plays a major role

Justice League and the DCU is shitty in general, though. I don't think the Snyder version is going to be any better because his previous DCU movies were just as awful as Justice League. So this idea that his version is going to come out and be better and even save the DCU just makes me laugh. Snyder's a better person than Whedon certainly. But he's just as terrible a film director.

Never underestimate the persistence of middle aged white guys with a lot of money, nonny. There'll always be plenty of other middle aged white guys to give them a break or applaud their comeback, when enough time has passed.

Ayrt

Of course that's always possible. But I'm not sure what could happen right now that would prove that what you're talking about won't happen, which is what OP seems to want.

(Anonymous) 2021-02-27 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
A HUGE, HUGE backlash. Which I am honestly not seeing as someone who isn't big into TV shows and only knows him because of FS.

(Anonymous) 2021-02-27 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
Give it 5-10 years and hell come back with some sob story about how he's changed while the studios that hire him will do an even harsher job of keeping his shit under wraps.

(Anonymous) 2021-02-27 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
AYRT and again, OK but, taking OP's stance that "cancel culture should cancel him" - what could cancel culture do that would prevent him from hypothetically rehabilitating himself in 5 or 10 years

(Anonymous) 2021-02-27 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
I wish there was a Cancel Culture Committee who looks at all the evidence of someone being accused of something and as soon as they decide someone IS worth being stripped of whatever power/fame/money they had.
But alas, all we have are PR crews and lawyers who decide what to do based upon whether there is money to be lost and whether or not it's good for the brand.

(Anonymous) 2021-02-27 07:33 am (UTC)(link)
What a dangerous idea. You honestly think that kind of power would never be abused/is automatically valid? If so, that is either tragically naive or frankly rather sinister.

AYRT
Er, it was a joke. I think it's weird that there is this assumption that when someone is getting "cancelled" that there is this collective decision to oust someone when in reality there really isn't such a thing as being cancelled. People always find places to exist and for high profile/rich people, they always have people they can orbit around to find a time to drive a narrative that can bring them back onto the same/a similar career.

I just meant, it would be nice, wouldn't it? That when someone is revealed to be a bad person and we can all be like "Oh Joss Whedon sucks," and never have to worry about having to see or hear about him ever again, but the world doesn't work like that.

Whedon sounds like yet another person trying to relive their high school cast this time as the popular asshole instead of the unpopular one.
