Yeah, having the Great Big True Love Story of the series be an adulterous/bigamist relationship was a nonstarter for me too, and that was even before I found out how rape-tastic the series was (and badly handled at that.) It's a shame because Early Modern Britain is my field of study and I'm writing my master's paper on a related topic...people keep recommending this show to me, but nope.
