I think that's fair. There's always an element of performativeness and exploitation to it.

It reminds me of how in ye olde times in London eating whelks became fashionable. They were poor people's food and the wealthy elite started a trend for eating them alongside working class people. Jump forward a few centuries and you can see the same behavior in rappers. Middle class black guys rapping with lyrics like they grew up in deprivation. I think it's a desperation to show that they're not sheltered and soft in some way. IDK. There's something there in human nature anyway.

Human nature? More like capitalism. Their audience wants it, they do it.

I dunno. Reading this, seems like she was on her own a lot - living in the US as a teen, not rolling in it.... I didn't see anywhere that her dad was a billionaire, but who knows.

Didn't see anything bad about the movies, either, like 'actors say they were cheated' or anything.....

*shrug*
It's possible she's a horrible person, but not the first assumption i would make.

I mean, most directors come from a middle-class to upper-class background. As long as she not going around saying, "Ha ha, suckers," and she pays her actors (which she does) I'm not feeling like I should jump on the cancel train.
