I think that's fair. There's always an element of performativeness and exploitation to it.

It reminds me of how in ye olde times in London eating whelks became fashionable. They were poor people's food and the wealthy elite started a trend for eating them alongside working class people. Jump forward a few centuries and you can see the same behavior in rappers. Middle class black guys rapping with lyrics like they grew up in deprivation. I think it's a desperation to show that they're not sheltered and soft in some way. IDK. There's something there in human nature anyway.

Human nature? More like capitalism. Their audience wants it, they do it.

Are our systems somehow separate from our nature? Capitalism is born of humans.
