re: Sherlock Holmes...right?? I don't think I ever stopped to think "this is in 1st person" it's just excellently written so that the narrative voice means nothing. I know there are more examples of it to show that it is a perfectly viable narrative device, or at least was at some point, but I prefer 3rd person so much that my brain isn't latching onto other examples.
