Based on #9 What Music did you discover through fan videos?

I found out about the English Concept album for Death Note the Musical through a Good Omens Animatic (They're Only Human)

Also Wolfsheim from a Garak/Bashir DS9 MV

I've mostly been into classic rock my whole life and pretty much stopped listening to modern music ages ago, then I was watching the AMV contest at a con back in like 2005 and saw a really nicely timed/edited Cowboy Bebop vid set to Muse's "Time is Running Out" and holy crap, had to track that song down to see if I liked it as much without the perfect visuals.

I did, and now they're one of like 3 bands I listen to that are still recording. -_-

Muse is ace. Love them.

Yeah, I've described their sound to people as something like the love child of Queen and Radiohead, and I mean, I love both of those. Muse kinda takes my favorite aspects of both and smashes them together and somehow it WORKS.

+1 Muse

It's likely shameful, but I only discovered Muse via Twilight. Undisclosed desires was my gateway song lol. Been to a at least one concert of theirs since then.

Hahahah, Neutron Star Collision is one of my favorite songs ever to sing along with (Muse in general is good to me - I have a really similar vocal range to Matt to the point that we slip into falsetto at approximately the same places, and this one is just plain fun to sing... I wish more karaoke DJs had Plug In Baby, that's my absolute fave for singing that's actually popular) but when I first went to link someone to "what I want to sing at karaoke tonight" I found out that the official video was full of Twilight and was like "...No really this song is amazing, I promise." XD

I mean if someone's into Twilight I'm not going to shame them for it, different tastes and all. But I am most certainly not and those around me probably have figured that out. ;)

And honestly it's really cool that the band did that for Meyer since she's been visibly a huge fan and all, regardless what I think of the property in question. (If somehow I ever write something hugely popular my fervent wish is that they would be willing to write something for my movie too. Would also lust after a track from Suzanne Vega, Vienna Teng, or Richard Shindell, who are my other top writing soundtrack go-tos. Sadly Pink Floyd is probably not even remotely feasible.)

I discovered Hedningarna and Rammstein thanks to an awesome Sauron fanmix years ago even before I was fully in the Tolkien fandom. Actually, there is a lot of music I discovered back in the day thanks to fanmixes. Both Nightwish and Within Temptation I first heard on fanmixes.

Discovered Cruachan thanks to a Sauron fanvid because someone went for the obvious and used their Sauron song for a vid about him. And Five Finger Death Punch thanks to another Sauron fanvid.

I believe I first heard Sabaton on a Warhammer fanvid. And I first heard the Skyrim music on a fanvid and have been obsessed ever since even though I know very little about the game.

So many, but here are some of my favorites, and links to the vid that introduced me to the song (highly recommend every one of these vids, too):

DLZ by TV On The Radio (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, whole show)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xa4u4uPuIrw

Matches To Paper Dolls by Dessa (The X-Files, Scullycentric)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GkFltACApGU

Turn Up The Faders by Nathan Asher & The Infantry (Iron Man 1, 2 & 3)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FuVsKk8sxVs

Hard Feelings by Lorde (The End Of The Fucking World)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6nYF3juDQY

Humming One Of Your Songs by Ane Brun (Sherlock, Johnlock)

Madonna's "Hung up" (don't remember the fanvid, maybe something Doctor Who?)

Adam Lambert version of "Fever" (think it was a multi-fandom Sherlock Holmes vid)

Lena Fayre's "This World" (Mad Max: Fury Road fanvid)

Bonus answers: I discovered Calexico's "Bullets and Rocks" thanks to a Turner Classic Movies promo, and "I Lost My Heart to a Starship Trooper" (which is fucking hilarious, but mainly for the video) thanks to Lindsay Ellis' video essay about Cats.

NIN, via a Seishirou/Subaru fanvid circa the early 2000s. Wait, I can still find it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVk49smt92g
