Just curious - what are your favorite older fandom? For the purposes of this, let's say pre-2000, even though that's not really that old

Digimon and Sailor Moon.

Dragonball Z. First time I ever got into anything that could be considered fandom.

Suikoden, though technically that went from mid 90s through mid 00s (technically there were spinoffs but one of them didn't even make it to the west).

oh hi5. I still cosplay and RP from Suikoden even though no one even remembers it.

and a hearty Fuck Konami for whatever the fuck their insane CEO has done to the company so that we can't even hope for a PS4/5 remaster of the original 5 games. I don't count Tierkries and I don't count whatever this weird kickstarter from the writers is...filing off some of the serial numbers does not make this new game a continuation of Suikoden lore and story and you can't woo me with "by the original writers!"

Agreed that it sucks the main series won't continue.

But honestly, I look forward to Eiyuden Chronicle. Even though it is only considered a spiritual successor, it doesn't bother me. The fact that it IS by the original writers means it at least has a shot at being good. I don't have high expectations but I'm hopeful. And if it does well, I hope Konami will revive the Suikoden series or strongly consider it. Not saying it's likely but I can hope.

I realize there's no guarantee of anything, of it doing well, or of it even being released. I don't care. I contributed to the kickstarter that first day, partly as a fuck you to Konami, and partly because I feel like the creators have given me so much over the years, so many hours of gameplay, story, lore, characters, ideas, music! and inspiration for fanworks, that I wanted to give something back.

And I'll be honest... it was satisfying to see the creators reach their goal within the first six hours, then go on to gain several times that by the time the kickstarter was over. That's how badly the fans wanted a new Suikoden, or even something made by the creators of Suikoden. I can only hope Konami saw that and went "...oh, fuck."

I love Suikoden! I want to replay my games, but I never have time for such long games anymore.

Dragonball Z and The A-Team. The latter required a fair amount of scouring around online to find the fic as well since most of it existed pre-ff.net.

Donkey Kong and Star Fox. Back when none of the kids had consoles themselves and we all shared the one at day care/summer camp.

Tolkien is my favorite fandom, always. Like the Buffy fandom too. Doctor Who is both old and new and an okay fandom.

Classic Doctor Who. I dunno if it’s the nostalgia or what, but people seem way more chill when talking about Classic Who and a whole lot less chill when talking about Nu Who.

Gotta say Trek TNG. I got into it fairly recently, and combing through what remains of the earlier fics that have been archived was a unique joy. :)

Sherlock Holmes, the Arthur Conan Doyle Canon
Jane Austen, specifically Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility

Seconding Suikoden, also several of the older Final Fantasy games (will never not love IV, have a cosplay group for V, and I should've figured out I was not straight just by how I felt about Celes).

And I mean, there's Star Trek TOS. I've been rewatching Buck Rogers and love it maybe more than I did when I was watching it as a kid, and there's so much potential, but I'm kind of afraid of what the fandom might have done with/to Wilma, so haven't looked. -_-

Oh oh and From Eroica With Love. Definitely my fave manga ever and the 70s vibe is a part of why I love it. :D Kinda iffy on the actual fandom though...

The TOS fandom used to be awesome. Then the new movies came out and they started to be downright rude to new fans. Nothing wrong with hating the new movies. I don't much like them other than Beyond. But the way they treat the fans who do like them is just not cool and in my opinion has ruined the fandom.

Every now and then I dip my toe into Stargate fandom. They tend to be pretty cool.

The X-Files, hands down.

For games: Older Final Fantasy games (particularly VII) and Persona 2, maybe Sonic too.
For anime: Gravitation, Getbackers and Evangelion maybe with honorable mentions to the likes of Utena, Gundam Wing, Nadesico, Trigun and Yu Yu Hakusho.
For novel and manga: Ai no Kusabi, Cipher and Level E ...?
For music: way too many!

CLAMP manga fandom will always have a soft spot for me - compared to most fandom's I've been apart of its certainly been the 'calmest'.
