Seconding Suikoden, also several of the older Final Fantasy games (will never not love IV, have a cosplay group for V, and I should've figured out I was not straight just by how I felt about Celes).

And I mean, there's Star Trek TOS. I've been rewatching Buck Rogers and love it maybe more than I did when I was watching it as a kid, and there's so much potential, but I'm kind of afraid of what the fandom might have done with/to Wilma, so haven't looked. -_-

Oh oh and From Eroica With Love. Definitely my fave manga ever and the 70s vibe is a part of why I love it. :D Kinda iffy on the actual fandom though...

The TOS fandom used to be awesome. Then the new movies came out and they started to be downright rude to new fans. Nothing wrong with hating the new movies. I don't much like them other than Beyond. But the way they treat the fans who do like them is just not cool and in my opinion has ruined the fandom.

I kind of understand there... I didn't get to experience TOS fandom before the new movies, mostly because it intimidated the heck out of me and I didn't dare set foot in a fandom that was no doubt so established and probably everything that could have been written and discussed already had been, right?

...But then when the reboot came out, since there were so many people just getting into it, I could kinda slide in there and not really be noticed. And I didn't notice rudeness, but maybe that was because I was more into discussing TOS so I succeeded in not drawing attention to my never having interacted before. Doesn't surprise me to hear it about reboot-focused fans though, because I have some RL friends who just completely flip out in rage every time the reboots are mentioned, like somehow their existence means that no one can ever watch TOS again, and everyone who liked them took part in a murder. I dunno man, my DVD collection still works just fine...

IDK that might have been the case when the movies were coming out but I really don't think it's been the case recently

But it probably helps that the movies aren't really the hotness anymore

When I got into star trek after the release of the 3rd AOS movie, I got into the Uhura/T'Pring ship that was set in the new movies universe - and oh lord the absolute rage of some of the older fans.
There were people writing comments about how evil T'Pring was and shipping her with Uhura was some kind of immoral thing to do (the ones I remember were the comments saying that shipping T'Pring/Uhura was only a thing because it was like a female version of shipping Spock/Kirk and therefore should just be shipping them instead).

Honestly, as much as I've liked TOS fan works, there were some fans (and noticeably Spirk shippers)

There were some fans that had put me right off the Star Trek TOS side of fandom with their tantrums. It's been a few years now so hopefully its calmed down now, and I've fallen more for Voyager and DS9 now so it didn't put me entirely off of Star Trek.

(OP) ...That is bizarre. All the more so because if T'Pring and Uhura get together, that totally frees up Spock for Kirk and so they can imagine all the Kirk/Spock they want (as if there wasn't plenty enough already). I mean I've written a lot of it for requests/memes and I don't even like it unless Bones is also involved. (And if I'm gonna ship any side of that triad on its own, it's Spock/Bones.)

I'm glad you found some fun in other areas of Trek! I absolutely loved Voyager when I finally got to watch it (local network affiliate that aired it had a dispute with the cable company 3 episodes into Voyager's first season and I couldn't watch that channel again for I think 4 years) and I mean... hopefully no one judges you on ships there, considering how the CANON for that ends up. :P
