Re: Being anon vs known

I've actually been thinking about not posting anon anymore. Basically I started because I had been getting some hate in a particular fandom for basically being prolific and well-known, and so I... basically didn't know how to handle that other than to disappear. Left that fandom, started posting only anonymous in shared fandom spaces like this.

But it's been something like ten years now, I'm certainly not "hogging the spotlight" in anything but a dead fandom (and that's because hardly anyone else is ever writing in it). And it would be a lot easier to find replies to my comments and whatnot if I posted here logged in (which I always am, and I have to remember to click "more options" to post anonymously, and one extra step isn't that much but it's getting old).

But also I've been posting here anonymously so long that if I start posting under my actual account I kinda feel like I'd need to go "oh by the way I was '[subject]-anon' and '[othersubject]-anon' if anyone needs to get in touch with me about those things" but that would seem like drawing unnecessary attention to myself and aaauuugggh that's why I went anon in the first place.

So I keep thinking "okay you know what, tomorrow I'll just start posting un-anon again and not say anything and if people want to connect the dots they can" but then the next day's post goes up and I chicken out.

NAYRT

Being that "particular subject" anon and connecting with other "i like that subject too!" Anons is perhaps one of the reasons that I would like to get an account so we could connect over that subject, but at the same time, do i really want that? I like staying lowkey. Sigh.

Exactly! Like if someone wants to coordinate lucky eggs to level up in Pokemon Go, they could msg me or whatever.

Just... past fandom experience has made me chicken to put my name on anything outside my own fanstuff on AO3, where it's sort of expected. :P

...Also if I posted logged in, I could correct things like using the word "basically" three times in one sentence because my brain doesn't work as well as it used to, hahah.

(And yes I know it's stupid and arrogant to even think anyone would think one way or the other if I posted unanon, I wasn't a freaking celebrity and I doubt anyone remembers who I am even in that fandom :P)

I feel you guys so much. Let's give a big "maybe I should de-anon to talk about certain subjects, but do I REALLY want to? Has being known to talk about subjects ever REALLY worked? Don't we find more drama than people to tak about those subjects?" group hug.

...But how many people are actually in this group hug? Hahahah... the world may never know.

Well, judging from the comments... at least 4! How many exactly? It's a mystery.gif
