Re: Wattpad & Other FF Sites

I haven't gone to Wattpad yet, I haven't really felt the pull. I'm pretty invested in Ao3s tagging system so trying to go back to FFN or learn a new site like Wattpad is more than my quarantine-fogged brain can handle.

Do they also host fan art? Because if they're doing covers they must have some pretty good artists in there.

Fan sites have certain gravitational pulls, and that's partly down to when they were at their biggest. Like FFN probably has more HP and LOTR fic than all the rest of the world put together, while AO3 has MCU and Sherlock for days. I'm not sure what Wattpad has, bandom? Kidnapping? Trapped In An Island With Josh Hutcherson? I'm assuming they have an app that is optimized for mobile browsing and this covers thing reminds me of early ipod browsing so that's neat. But there's this vibe that any one who's anti-ao3 is pro conservative/purity based censorship and that just doesn't gel with what I want or what I've heard is popular on Wattpad. I honestly need guide or an advertising blitz or something.

At the end of the day I'm old and tired; I probably won't get into it unless a writer I love moves there exclusively or I get into a new fandom that's blown up on WP.

AYRT

For the record, the only fics I've read on WP gave been shitty fics that take a band and turn the lead (or whoever is the writer's face) and turn them into Dark! Whoever they are. The quality is...lacking, but I can't look away lol. I always appreciate people doing what they like however, and I don't like shitting on someone's creative activities, even if I'm just shaking my head, wondering why I'm still reading this brain melting drivel. I do feel that Ao3 has higher quality. There's plenty to sift through, but quality abounds.
