Well yeah, it's not the tropes that are the problem is a fandom warping the characters to fit tropes, and this happens pretty much all the time which is why it's so annoying. I'm here for adults being written like adults, not turning into wilting 14 year olds once the sex starts happening. It's maddening.

I think at some point, we're not really complaining about anything more specific than just bad writing

And I'm not saying those complaints aren't justified because bad writing is annoying but bad writers are still gonna be bad writers whatever tropes they use

DA - Thank you for saying this, because yeah, absolutely, this is how I see it as well.

At some point, yes, but "bad writing" in itself isn't contagious, and tropes are.

Eh, I think there's more to it than that. I'm never going to enjoy barbecue sauce on my pizza, but it's a very different experience to eat a bunch of bad pizzas that I dislike for different reasons (one's too greasy, one's a little burnt, one uses barbecue sauce, etc.) vs. eating a bunch of bad pizzas that all use barbecue sauce. I'd much rather have some variety in the type of badness I'm consuming!
