I agree, it's fine either way if it's actually plausible for the character to act like that, personally. And sometimes you can have more than 1 interpretation and - I tend to prefer it when characters subvert their stereotypes (ie the scrawny cute/"feminine" guy tops the bigger muscley partner) but in some cases the more predictable scenario works well or better, even for me... could be cute.
Can't say I blame anyone for liking seme/uke tropes either, even if I prefer it when characters are treated more like equals and I hate power imbalances or abusive relationships. It's just a matter of personal taste.
I AM willing to admit, though, that back when these stereotypes were TOO prevalent I felt really annoyed at people who wrote them like it, and maybe I still would if I were in fandoms where rigid seme/uke tropes are too prevalent.
