Anon, I say this from personal experience: you absolutely do not need a degree to get a decent job. What you DO need is skills/experience, but you can get those from plenty of places that aren't college, and you can do it on your own terms.

No, I get that, don't get me wrong-- and I'm not trying to just argue or something when I say this, but where I live, you don't get better jobs without years of relevant experience. It's like... if you didn't do anything STEM-related you're fucked out here. I moved to be close to family (and thank god I can rely on them, to my ego's detriment), but I have zero relevant skills for 90% of the work here.
