As a female millenial, I feel like despite people making fun of us for being immature, I never got a chance to enjoy being young. And now I'm starting to age, and Gen Z is making fun of us for being out of touch while so many people my age I know still don't have the traditional markers of being settled into middle age that Boomers and older GenX have (when you're not dependent on your parents and you get to ignore whether or not teenagers think you're cool).

I feel the same way about losing my dream career.

Agreed!

I liked him a lot, too, and I feel like he got waaay too much hatred for being a flawed person when he was really a pretty realistic teenage boy. I quit at some point in season 4 so he might've gotten worse, but in the early seasons it was like 90% unjustified.

Ick.

edit: old dude who played ian grew up to be a bit of a goofy looking man.

I like Taylor and, you know, whatever works for you - but I also feel with generational stuff, it's just not that deep

I mean it's unfortunate but it's the reality of the program, everything is seen in the light of what came before.

Also it's Moffat's fault.

Oof, I felt this. I got a degree in drama but due to my abusive upbringing (which included years of isolation and me believing nothing good was possible for me) and the world going to hell, I just gave up. I had no connections and had no idea how to make any without feeling like a burden on anyone else. I never got that validation I needed, though in retrospect, I don't think any amount of validation would have fixed my fucked up background and PTSD. Still, there are days I feel I took the coward's way out instead of throwing myself out there. And now I'm stuck in a job I don't enjoy but feel like I can't leave because it's safe (for now), but it wouldn't matter if I left now because I'm a middle-aged woman and the industry doesn't have any use for middle-aged women wanting to break into the industry. I get heartsick knowing on all the stuff I missed out on, and all the stuff I will never get to do. And it really sucks knowing I did this all to myself.

teal deer; Sorry for the rant, just saying I get it.

If it makes you feel a tiny bit better, imo 12 arguably has the best episode of the modern series under his belt, and that's all down to Peter Capaldi's skills as an actor as well.

Which famous person (celebrity, artist, historical figure, et cetera) do you relate to and why?

Inspired by today's Secret #1.

Which one?

Also a Millennial (on the older side) and I often wonder if Gen Z mocking us is them trying to cope with the knowledge deep down that what came for us is coming for them too. Let's face it, the idea that you'll be better off (especially financially and later in retirement) than the generations that came before you is pretty much dead at the moment. It's easy to make wisecracks about a 30something renting an overpriced room in a flatshare with other 30somethings when you're still living in your parental home.

But I also think it often isn't that deep and it's young people being young people. Although, I feel a tiny bit deflated sometimes because in my teens I remember looking up to (not mocking) Gen X and rolling my eyes at my parents generation instead, so it does feel like we're getting it from both directions at times.
