Hard disagree. I love flexible descriptive tagging.

And I love not clicking on fics like yours.

Nayrt

You're totally right - this is a satisfactory system for everyone. Other people can tag as much as they want and you get to avoid clicking fics you don't like. I totally agree with you, banning flexible tags isn't necessary.

Absolutely correct. The system as it is works. Readers like you get to avoid writers whose preferences annoy them. Readers like me are enabled to more accurately seek out fics that suit our taste and avoid fics that don't suit our taste. And writers are able to tag however they feel best represents their fics, thus getting more readers who will enjoy their fics and fewer readers who will not enjoy their fics. We all win.

These are the most transparent of excuses. Are your stories written like your tags? Are you trying to find tired memes in the fics you read? How does this help anyone?

I honestly can't even really tell what you're saying (accusing?) here. You kind of seem like you're tilting at windmills.

I don't MIND the descriptive tagging, but it gets annoying (for me) when it's like the author is trying to be funny/chill/chummy about things. If it's done right, I'll laugh and maybe read the summary. If it's done "X is a cinnamon roll""fight me""true wuv""I'm thirsty and so are you"etc. Style of tags for a while and block up the rest of my page...you can go home Roger.

I'm the anon who loves descriptive tagging, but I will agree that it can get off-putting depending on how it's done. If it's really tryhard about being cute/chummy/quirky, that can be kind of off-putting (though I've read plenty of well-written, enjoyable fanfic with funny, chummy tags, so it's by no means a dealbreaker for me). And, of course, if it's a wall of tags I think most people find that off-putting. But there is a lot of room in the middle between minimalist restricted tagging and wall of tags.

Personally I just find people's tags useful about a hundred times more often than I find them annoying. And as a writer I love them because I love being able to warn for things specifically. I don't have to sit there going, "Should I use a noncon tag because of this extremely minor thing that could nonetheless ping someone's noncon squick/trigger?" I can just use a specific tag. Or I can tag noncon and then add more tags that clarify why the noncon tag is in use.
