As usually with anything comics-based, it depends on the writer, but a lot of times it's less "How could you ever think you'd need to stop me" and more "Maybe we could have had a team meeting about this instead of you deciding to go on a series of bat-quests to find out the best way to kill all of us if we go rogue. Like, we all have at least one nemesis who already knows. We'd probably have told you just so you could come up with an antidote in case someone other than you kills us. Hell, we could even go the non-lethal route. I'm pretty sure Ma Kent actually kept some of that polka-dot kryptonite that turns Kryptonians into mime artists..."
