Advice/Questions
(Anonymous) 2021-05-21 12:32 am (UTC)(link)Re: Advice/Questions
I'm going to put all her stuff to start with in my room so she has a home base, and then we'll slowly spread out as she gets more comfortable. I've got a med from the vet for her to take before we get in the car that should relax her, and the cage I got for her to ride in is fairly big. She's been enjoying eating treats out of it the past few days. I'm not planning on stopping at all on the drive unless absolutely necessary. And I'm going to spend the next few weeks totally focused on her.
Is there anything else I could or should do for her to make this transition a little easier?

(Anonymous) 2021-05-21 01:23 am (UTC)(link)I wouldn't worry about getting Feliway or anything else to calm her down unless she's super nervous or won't come out of a hidey hole for a week, but Feliway is great.

Re: Advice/Questions
Load them up in the crates (mine were just regular sized crates) with two on top and two on bottom, right behind the driver and passenger seats so that myself or my partner could give scritches.
At each motel (it was a six day drive), set the crates down and give them free rein of the room. Set up a litter box, of course. Let them get comfy, let them do whatever. That way they would assume/treat the crates as eternal prisons; they get to get out and explore a new room each night!
Throughout the day, at every stop, offer food and water. They didn't partake, ofc, but the offer was there.
Once we reached our new home, I basically set their crates down in my bedroom and let them explore. Again, because there were four instead of one, they could egg each other on/gain comfort and courage from each other but I think it's pretty much the same. Definitely spend lots of quiet time with her and make sure she has everything she needs to be comfy.
Cats hate change but they're a lot more resilient than we give them credit for. :3
Philadelphia and NYC questions

Last time we went to DC we also took a day trip to NYC. We went to the Body World exhibition and saw a Broadway show. We will be doing different stuff this time. What would people recommend within the area of Grand Central Station? Both food and stuff to do. We are thinking of going to the MoMa but that is it so far.
Re: Philadelphia and NYC questions
The Transit Museum was something both my dad and I loved, but it is currently closed. If it is open again when you go, it would be worth checking out if you are at all interested in history.
I love the Zoo, but that's a little further than MoMa, so it depends on how far you want to go.

(Anonymous) 2021-05-22 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)On the other hand, if you go down the avenues instead to 1st Avenue, there's a long stretch of walkway next to the East River that you can go up and down. I used to walk the 40+ blocks home from my university that way. The skyline at dusk and at night when everything lights up is one of my favourite things about the city, and it's usually quite serene (minus the hum of cars zooming by, of course).
