They already know, hon. And yes, people are into it just because Ben Barnes is hot, even if Alina/Darkling won't be endgame. It's as if fandom isn't restricted by what happens in canon, crazy huh?

Nah, AYRT has a point. Fandom has a long history of losing all chill and deciding a text is The Worst the moment it starts doing things that obstruct their ship. Which, like, I get where the shippers' disappointment and aggravation is coming from, but it sucks for literally everyone who doesn't ship that pairing and now has to deal with a very vocal contingent of fandom proclaiming how much canon sucks (and/or is homophobic).

Lol you act as if it's not a two way street where fans of the canon ship act like... Well, AYRT about it, smug and presumptuous. And that's the nicer ones. You also have the canon fans who gang up on fans of the non-canon ship to tell them they're promoting abuse and want to be abused in their real relationships and doing their best to bully them out of fandom altogether.

Oh, I know I'm definitely in it just for hot bonbons. I don't think I've ever had a desire for a ship I like to become canon -- I think the one time it did I lost interest. It's only fun (for me) to play with the possibility. Besides, I much prefer having my faves be fandom bicycles. Everyone can have some fun!

What. Do you seriously think the villain in a villain/hero ship becoming even more obsessed with the hero, and the two of them forming a telepathic bond and taking on aspects of each others powers is actually going to make people ship it less? Because if you do, you must never have met a shipper in your life.

LOL, this. Ayrt also seems to think that there are stans for the show who... haven't read the books and won't read the books before season two comes out in 2022? Pretty sure most people know Alina won't end up with Kirigan/the Darkling, and the show already telegraphs it even more strongly than the books do, IMO.

And hello, it's fandom. People ship pairings that aren't canon or endgame ALL THE TIME.

If people like hot evil Ben Barnes, I would strongly recommend the Punisher Netflix series, especially S1. He's a former soldier who has now gone corporate and is running a security company and he is a) very hot and b) very evil. And there's nudity.
