My toenail broke off and stabbed itself into my toe really deep. It really sodding hurts.

Holy shit, I had a toenail incident myself.. though pinky toenail. My sympathies, toe pain is no joke!

…I’ve had someone else’s toenail puncture the meat below my big toenail before (martial arts sparring and we both lunged at each other at the same time). Not fun injury types and they are just compounded by the wtf-ness of it all. Hope you feel better :(

I worked really hard on a fic, loved how it turned out, and decided to post it. It’s been a week and I have a few views, but no kudos. I kinda figured it wouldn’t do well because it’s longer than my usual fics and my ship getting together is secondary to the main plot, but it’s still a little disheartening. I’m just trying to remind myself that I had fun writing it and that’s all that really matters.

I've had this happen and it's heartbreaking. The worst thing is never knowing why.

Are you comfortable linking it? I'm always looking for fics where romance is second to the plot.

I know that feeling. Once I posted an update to a fic that was sure would get attention from a discord I was at, since it featured characters that some of the folks loved, in situations that appealed to them. Crickets! Well, it was also my fault because I feel like doing any kind of advertising makes me an attention whore (thanks, shitty upbringing), but it definitely humbled my ass.

Sometimes you think you're mentally prepared for everything, but then you find out you're not prepared for a scenario even worse than the worst one you thought existed. Ugh.

I feel that way about advertising my fic too, even in places where it’s common to advertise your fic. It’s self-esteem issues for me with a little voice in my head whispering, “This is crap. Why do you want people to know you write crap?”.

I had that happen to me a few months back, but I wrote fic for the most unpopular ship in a dead fandom, so I wasn't expecting much but it was still hard to reconcile throwing it out there and getting nothing back even though it was getting hits.

It does now have a whopping 12 kudos(I'm actually really happy about this don't get me wrong xD), but that first week of silence wasn't easy to deal with even though I knew it wasn't going to get many eyes on it.

I have no idea if your situation is the same, ie: small ship/fandom, but just letting you know it can feel sucky even when you know going in that your fic will get next to no attention. But maybe yours will pick up too!

The fandom is pretty big and still active, but the pairing isn’t popular, so that might be one of the reasons.

Congrats on the twelve kudos though! It’s nice to have even a little acknowledgement. :D

You made something you liked. You put in the time to Create A Thing. You practiced your writing craft.

Those are all good things. And, as you say, having fun writing it.

(But still, yeah, it hurts when nobody gives a kudos. Can you reward yourself with a nice dessert maybe? Some kind of a treat for working hard?)

I actually went grocery shopping after I posted it so I wouldn’t be sitting at home and refreshing my email to see if anybody liked it. XD I bought myself a little cake to celebrate finishing it.

How long was it? I've noticed longer one shots often get less views.

It was twenty chapters. Most of the fics I write are three chapters or less, but I got really into this one and wrote a lot.

Man! That's my sweet spot for long chaptered fics (that I generally enjoy reading. Somewhere between 20 & 30 chapters).

As a reader of fic (and constantly on the hunt for some long fic too), I'm so glad you enjoyed writing it and got so into it you had to keep going -- that's what happens to me as the reader, wishing there was more! I wish you continued fun times with future fics and more attention from your readers)future readers :)

Sorry to hear about that. It's super discouraging when you don't get any kudos, I have been there. Give it some time, you might get someone who was looking for what you wrote and it will make their day.
It's good that you had fun writing it! It's always amazing when a writer finishes a fic, too. I struggle with completing my fics, so I think a finished fic is always something every writer should feel proud about.

So last night, I managed to slip and fall in the dark in the new house. I landed really hard. I have been in intense pain all day, that actually has been getting worse as the day goes on. Nothing is broken, I don't think. But the pain feels really deep and not just a muscle thing. I'm actually debating going to an urgent care tomorrow if it isn't better. Can't go to a regular doctor as I don't have one in Dallas yet.

I just hope I can sleep. And then actually get things done tomorrow. Today all I could do mostly was lay in bed.

That sounds awful! I'm so sorry that happened to you. I hope you're able to sleep well and I do think you should go to urgent care just to make sure nothing's broken.

It's possible you bruised the bone, which hurts like a motherfucker. Icing it should help, and if it's still intensely sore tomorrow, or if there's swelling, definitely go to urgent care to make sure you didn't fracture anything, and possibly to get some pain relief so you can rest.
