Yeah, like I noted above, I am not without my own past writing sins, hahah. "Luminous orbs" though...

I mean, okay look - I started gaming in the 80s and so when I think of "luminous orbs" I think of the menu screen of Final Fantasy 1. :D Would never, ever have occurred to me that someone was referring to EYES. Why are they apparently glowing, unless this is X-Men fic and you're describing Cyclops? Why can you see the roundness of the entire eyeball? Whyyyyyyyyy did this ever occur to ONE writer, let alone many? :D

NAYRT--idk it always sounded like crappy romance novel level purple prose to me, I assume one or a few writers used it based on those and it spread from there.
