I've blocked so many people on tumblr for various stupid+petty reasons and as far as I know, no one has gotten mad about it. Unless you're a prolific content creator as well I doubt they'll notice.

I do wish that Tumblr had a mute option so that I don't have to see certain people's posts without having to block or unfollow - but with that being said, block if you need to OP.

the more common blocking people for "petty" reasons becomes, the less people will fret over if they have committed some grave mistake if they find out they have been blocked

Maybe uninstall and reinstall XKitt? I was on Tumblr last week and used it just fine, to blacklist some new tags.

If you block from one of their posts, it's highly unlikely their going to notice versus following them first and then blocking.

(though I've only had to do the latter if they've blocked me first b/c then I can't SEE their posts but they can still see/interact on mine and are being rude.)

I've been blocked by a few people (gifmakers who I obviously can't reblog) and have no idea why, but I just blocked them back so I don't see their content. Works out fine lmao

If their username isn't a very common word that would make other posts disappear, you could try entering the name in the "muted words" list (the one in the settings below the blocked hashtag list). It worked for me in a similar case.

I download fic as ePub files from AO3, partially to save them, but also because I can do exactly this. I can fix the annoying SPaG errors, change smut words that turn me off, etc.

The author doesn’t need to know, and it makes my reading much more enjoyable. I usually only put in the effort when the fic is quite good already.

I feel you, OP, but that's an interesting choice of example given that Edgeworth is one of the only people who does soften and relent, canonly. At least, it's implied that despite what he says, he doesn't actually follow through. Fanworks have him go way harder on Gumshoe than he does in canon, and that's the part I really can't get with - when fans take an in-joke way too far and it's forcefully included in literally everything. Fanon is a disease.
