I download fic as ePub files from AO3, partially to save them, but also because I can do exactly this. I can fix the annoying SPaG errors, change smut words that turn me off, etc.

The author doesn’t need to know, and it makes my reading much more enjoyable. I usually only put in the effort when the fic is quite good already.

Wait! Are you telling me you can edit ePub files as word docs? This whole. Fucking. Time. And here I've been just grabbing the PDF when I could have been editing to my heart's content T.T

Not as word docs. I use Calibre for organizing and editing my ePub docs. It’s more like editing in html, so slightly more annoying for formatting, but pretty easy for copy editing type things.
